Century watch repairs: UK non RSC servicing

Hi,

Thought I’d share my experience with Century Watch Repairs (who are UK based) as not everyone wants to pay RSC prices, and having a local independent business that you can easily go to and discuss any issues with you have with your watch with the business owner or watchmaker is quite appealing. I’ve used RSC’s before a number of times and have always found their staff quite snooty!

Anyways, I’ve had Century watch repairs (CWR) work on 2 of my watches now and I’ve been more than happy with the results. The place is owned/run by Alastair who used to work for RSC London for a number of years as is the case for the other watchmakers. Alastair is a top guy, really friendly and is happy to just chat about watches (my “quick” visits to drop off or pick up my watches always end up being 30mins!!).

CWR first polished a skydweller for me and it came back like new, really impressive and for £95 I thought very well priced. The watch was quite badly beaten up and they listened to my concerns re over polishing but I needn’t had said anything as all edges, etc came back like the watch came new from the factory. Having been extremely satisfied with this work I then a few months later sent in my 116600 for a service and polish. Again the work on this was faultless. This time I also requested some behind the scene pics and Alastair was more than happy to oblige:

This personal touch is great and is comforting to know that your watch is being looked after someone who is as passionate about watches as you are. The 116600 came back like new, am really happy. All for about half the price of what RSC would charge and in just over 3 weeks. Also comes with CWR 2 year guarantee.

I understand from speaking to Alastair that their workshop manager has spent the last 2 weeks in Switzerland with Cartier as they finalise them becoming an accredited Cartier service centre, so an indication of the standards they work too.

All in id highly recommend century watch repairs if you want a personal service and an alternative (and better value) to RSC.

A good review and always good to have options for other people to work on our watches. Just out of interest how much are they charging for a service?

To answer some questions:

Based in Stevenage
Don’t think they laser weld
Rolex service is £375

If you look on TZ-UK quite a bit of positive feedback there too.
