Watch collection and what to do next…

I have a 2 watch collection consisting of a 2016 Black Bay Heritage Burgundy with ETA movement and rose smiley dial. This is my daily watch and most worn watch over the 8 years I have owned it. I love dive watches and the simplicity of a no date. I use the dive bezel every day, as a hairstylist I use it to time the development times of colour services. I love the look of it on its bracelet but 90% of the time it lives on the OEM nato that also came with it. This is primarily due to not being able to find a comfortable fit on bracelet and after a few hours wear on bracelet I find it heavy and it digs in to my wrist. I should mention it was a gift from my wife for our wedding day and my 30th.

My second watch is a 124300 Rolex OP41 silver dial. I love this watch and wear it in the evenings, on my days off and date nights. It also doubles as my dress watch whenever the occasion arises that I need to wear a suit. The comfortability on its oyster knocks spots off my black bays 3 link (oyster style) bracelet, it is a joy to wear. I think this is due to the taper and the easy link adjustment. The dial is gorgeous and again I love the no date aspect.

My dilemma is do I trade both for a 14060M preferably 2007-2010 model and wear the living hell out of it. The 40mm size is probably better suited to my 6.5” wrist, and the hollow link bracelet appears to have an element of charm about it. However I have never seen or handled one in the metal so not sure if I have been spoiled by the modern build quality of my current pieces… if I went this route I would eventually like to add the newly released JLC reverso tribute monoface and have a 2 watch collection that covers all occasions.

Or do I replace my Black Bay with the new Metas Burgundy Black Bay in hope that its new proportions and T fit clasp make for a more comfortable wearing experience. That way my wife wouldn’t notice the switch (hopefully) and spare hurting her feelings. Although shes not a watch person so not sure she would care.

I have always wanted a Submariner which is what swayed me to the Black Bay originally but was never in a position to afford a sub 8 years ago. I had my heart set on the black bezel BB but it was hard to come by and went with the burgundy in the end. As I say I love the watch but I really want to wear it on the bracelet and my OP has made me realise how uncomfortable the BB really is.

I appreciate everything is subjective and ultimately it is my decision but I really value the opinions and experiences of TRF’ers!
Many thanks.

I like the idea of the Sub being your one and only but I would not buy until you've had the watch on your wrist. The 5 digit references wear and feel different than modern ones do. Can't beat a Sub for a daily though!

Goodness no. You love the wearability of the OP, not to mention how well it fills the niche of a dressier watch, and are going to trade it for a 5 digit that has no adjustable clasp?

You've got both bases covered you need right now. When you can, just add a 6 digit sub and you're done.

Trading in a wedding / bday gift from wife? Just save up and get the 14060 when you can afford it.

This. Do NOT trade or sell anything your SO has given you as a gift. Ever.

You could sell the OP41 and put the money towards a Tudor 79090 Submariner. That would allow you to keep the wedding gift and have a 5-digit reference to wear daily

I’m not to bothered about the clasp lacking on the fly adjustment on the count that I just think a 5 digit bracelet being lighter means more comfort.

I like a 6 digit sub but feel the ceramic bezel is too “loud” for my taste and also having a black bay and a sub would render the black bay redundant in some respects.

Ye I kind of get what you’re saying, it wasn’t a surprise gift or something that she had chosen herself it was entirely my choice. I worry that owning a BB and a Sub would be too similar in my collection or I would potentially always chose the submariner and the BB would never see the light of day.

My dilemma stems more from the fact I now find my BB rather uncomfortable to wear on a bracelet however I love the look of it on a bracelet…

What would be your reasoning behind a trade like this out of curiosity?

What about changing the bracelet of the Black Bay to the newer one off of the Monochrome to give you more of a taper and some adjustability?

That is something I have considered. Unfortunately the new monochrome has a lug width of 21mm and my BB is 22mm. The midlink on my ETA BB is 12mm and the midlink on the gen2 BB I believe is 10mm(unsure on what the metas gen3 is) so if I could source endlinks of a gen 2 bracelet I think the ranger bracelet would fit.. but not 100% sure.

I would never trade nor sell anything my wife got for me for my birthday, wedding, or anniversary, but that's just me. I wouldn't want to catch any backlash later down the road LOL!

Personally, I would save up to buy the Sub. It would be something for myself, as an award for my accomplishments. Just my opinion. Good luck!

10,000% agree. If you don't have the extra cash for the trade-up now, you certainly don't have the extra cash for the impending marriage counseling sessions & divorce attorney fees.

With a 6.5 inch wrist I’d buy a BB54 and keep the OP, even though a 36mm OP would probably fit you better.

For me I think the sub is better than the two to be traded. And I don’t think anything bad about the two you have it’s just I always look at the sub as a classic reference

100% try it on first since they feel much different. Also, add a piece and keep all for 6 months, then decide on next steps. This will prevent sellers remorse which loves to trickle in after a few days/weeks.

I’d keep both of your watches and add the sub when you can. Then, rotate all 3 for at least a year and then revisit this.

You already have two nice watches…no need to rush. Always best to slow it down…
