Hi Guys,

I planning on buying a GMT II but I can't quite make up my mind. Although I like the looks of the SS red hand GMT II the new ceramic bezel, improved mechanism, and upgraded band push me towards the newest version. I've seen the same band on a datejust and I really don't like the polished center links on the new GMT II. Though it may be blasphemous to purists, can the entire band be brushed?

My wife wants me to go with the new TT GMT II. I hesitate due to the price and my feeling that the watch may be a bit much for everyday wear in my community.... I also haven't ruled out the SS 16710 Z serial number.

Comments and suggestions?

Got mine today:

Yes, the polished can VERY EASILY be turned to "brushed". All the AD has to do is hit it with a buffer and it'll scratch it right up.

I had the same concern today when debating b/t the SS 50th LV and the GMT. He offered to "rough it up" before I left, but decided that I liked the look and I'd come back when it started to look like crap. As rough as I am on things, I'm guessing about two months, but after today, I think that it might look decent for a while. Guess it's a higher grade of stainless than some lesser models.

Welcome Dave. Personally I think your wife is a very wise person. I'm sure she recognises how hard you work and that you are a supportive loving husband and is wanting you to get the best possible one. For me that is the GMT, I love the finish of it, it looks wonderful on the wrist.
As to what it looks like in the community you live in, well It feels to me that this is a well deserved gift to yourself so enjoy that and don't worry what anyone else thinks!
I cannot answer the brushed thing but there are a bunch of really expert fellows on the forum who I am sure could tell you!
I hope you get the one that makes YOU the most happy!
Wear it in good great health when you get it and don't forget to post pictures!!!

And, believe it or not, that's a multi-focus Sony Cybershot!

Yeah, great pictures This is one of the nicest looking watches in the rolex lin-up IMHO, looking forward to getting mine.

Just wear it polished until it looks scratched and then brush it. It is a beautiful watch, and not too much for every day. I used to worry about wearing my shell cordovan shoes every day, and sleeping in 700 thread count sheets every day, and driving a ________every day. Life is short. Just go for the gusto and enjoy it. If it gets scratched, then polish or brush it all out.

Keep it polished.Fine scratches can be easily removed with a metal polish.I use WENOL multimetal polish,on the gold of the Blue TT Sub.Looks like new !!

Great picture and yes the centre links could be brushed finished.But Rolex would re-polish at service,now once I had my centre links polished on a SD.It lasted just two hours,took it back to my watchmaker friend and had him re brush just did not like it at all.

All the bits seem to work really well together. I don't think you can say the bracelet should be all brushed. Sure polished links would look crap on a sea dweller or a sub but on that watch, the polished links look really good, as does the ceramic bezel IMO.

Enjoy your watch in good health. The photo is nice. You may want to find a flash diffuser to avoid the reflective glare.

Everything is a matter of personal preference. If center links should be polished, why did Rolex use the brushed band for all these years?

My wife is wonderful. Next month is our 23rd wedding anniversary. She loved the TT and feels that an upper end watch should have gold. I'm just a bit disappointed by my reaction when I tried the watch. It looks so much better in photos that I've seen as TT vs SS but in real life I wasn't wowed. Part of that me be due to the fact that the band needed a link removed for a true fit and it's hard to evaluate the watch with it rolling on the wrist.

Never a truer word said! My GMT II felt terrible originally - once fitted correctly however it feels perfectly balanced - GREAT WATCH!!
