Decisions...Decisions

Need your help TRFers! Planning on adding a new piece. Budget is open till $28k

Looking at:

5167A-001 (New)
15202ST (New)
26400AU - AP Forged Carbon Novelty (Preowned)
5164 - Dual Time Aquanaut (Preowned)

Open to other suggestions but please keep away from gold pieces. I know they look good but its my personal preference

Again your input is highly appreciated, and thank you for your time

Nothing special worth mentioning. Im 23 and never wear formal attire mostly casual. If that helps with making your decision.

AP then. Simple.

Patek's wear small and will be too 'formal' for your age and lifestyle IMHO.

You'll love the AP. Have you tried it on?

Absolutely go try on the AP's (try the ceramic diver as well) and Patek's.

Nothing like trying on all and then making a decision.

For me a rubber strap is a no brainer. Also, keep in mind they make short straps (I use them as well) on AP's.

Let us know you thoughts after your AD/Boutique visit(s)

Just by your age alone, I recommend Rolex SS Daytona, Rolex Deepsea d-blue dial or any AP ceramic. I believe you can bang these watches around and still be ok with it.

If you’re seriously considering the AP ROO, then I’m at a loss as to why you’ve shortlisted the 15202 and Aquanauts instead of the 15400 and Nautilus.
If you’re also willing to accept pre-owned, then do so across the board and use the saving within your budget to get something else to swap with it, like say a pre-owned VC Overseas or Glashutte Original Seventies.

Spend time now looking at various permutations of what your budget will allow, before jumping in with both feet.

Thank you for your input sir, tbh Im not much of a Rolex fan. I have great respect for the brand its just that I see it all the time and would like to set myself apart. Really love the deepsea d-blue amazing dial!

Well...for some weird reason I prefer the Aquanaut over the Nautilus. I know I know call me crazy but something weird about the SS/tropical strap just draws me to it. As for the 15202 over the 15400, thats primarily because the Jumbo is much more proportioned and just screams CLASS. I wont even get to the history and movement aspect, thats for another thread. And tbh the VC Overseas never sang to me, tried it on a while back and was like meh. But then again this is from a guy that prefers the aqua over the nauti so dont blame me

AP forged is a bad MF.

Like Eric from CRM Jewelers says "I see your DD II and I'll raise you in plastic"

Ultimate slap in the face watch. Go get it and take a picture.

My opinion is if you don't mind preowned pick up a preowned AP 15202 and a preowned Daytona from one of our trusted sellers here. Would give you some nice diversity in the collection. Also if you have a change of heart both can be flipped with minimal losses.

If you want something that can be dressed up a bit and casual, Jumbo.

If you want something pure sport, FC.

I'm not a fan of the aquanaut or nautilus.

I'd stretch your budget and buy both a 15202 and 5167

I too find the "globe" dial of the 5167 more appealing than the 5711. I've tried on a 5167 and a 15400, and I preferred the 5167, but the 15400 was slightly too large for my wrist in my mind. I haven't tried the smaller 15202 though.

If it were me, I'd probably do one of the aquanauts. It's more understated than an AP, but I find that's what I really love about them. I love the way the 5164 looks, but I prefer the date wheel of the 5167 over the hand date of the 5164. Just visually the secondary time hand and the extra subdial look great. I think if money were no object I'd do the travel time, but considering I don't like it that much more than the 5167, realistically I just can't imagine paying that much more for it. That being said, both are way out of my realistic price range, haha. I don't know what the secondary market is like for either of them, if the price is comparable, I would go with the 5164.

5164 for one, but how about 5167 and a 15300.

If it were me I'd do a 5167 and a Daytona. A lot of flexibility with those two watches.

I disagree that Patek will be "too formal," I'm biased though...

Nothing more comfortable than 5167 imo. If you travel a lot 5164 becomes the choice.

23 too young to pick up a PP. Go with AP and other brands play with it for a few years later on move to PP. Your life will more fun.
I did the same way. Good luck.
