You cannot go wrong.

I slightly prefer the cleaner sapphire of the OP 39, and I have contemplated a his & hers in white.

The DJ41 (I own one) has a bezel that’s way too thick. On the smooth version, it should have been domed like the OP39, and should have a 20mm lug to lug width like most others in the range.

Nice watch, but I feel it’s lost it’s proportions.

The 36mm is the icon.

Yep.
I've owned a 116200 since 2012, and have been through literally a quarter of a million dollars worth of luxury watches in the last decade. I'm currently whittling my collection down, and my DJ is going to be in my final clutch of just a few pieces, or possibly the only one.

The 116200 is the classic.

Could not agree more, downgraded my DJ41 to the 36 for this exact reason. Could not get over the thickness of the bezel..

Yep. Am doing the same myself.

But, you didn’t downgrade! You changed it for the better!

Cheers

I agree but mine is same dial with fluted bezel and jubilee. Perfect for a one watch collection.

My most perfect one watch would need an adjustable clasp for sure. Can't enjoy a watch for a long time without one anymore.

My thoughts on the most perfect one watch

Make it fluted/jubilee and it’s perfect (imho). Other than that it’s perfect. Perfect dial, perfect size.

Please educate me on the appropriate times for oyster and appropriate times for jubilee... if you don't mind. Or do you feel it's jubilee all the time?

There’s no right or wrong here. Just a matter of taste. Most people consider the oyster more sporty and the jubilee dressier.

I do like the oyster. But its also a very common style. Every other Seiko, citizen, whatever watch is going to have a oyster-style bracelet. The jubilee is just more special in my opinion. Cool and elegant at the same time.

39.8mm as has been said.

We ordered this combo early last year when the white Roman dial was available. Came just in time for Xmas.
Now we match.
Beautiful pair, white dial looks very classy

In my opinion Subs, GMTs, Daytona’s, and Explorer 2s aren’t good candidates for a one watch collection because I think they do not fit well with a suit, James Bond excepted 😉 , but that is just me. However, retired people like me might be able to get away with it since we almost never wear a suit. 😀

Agreed entirely. It looks oversized in person. The fluted bezel looks fine though.

It’s all steel and durable, movement is robust, waterproof enough for 99.9% of the planet, business suit and the way to the beach, sportyish, understated, legible and comfortable. You can even dress it up by putting it on a leather strap.

Anyone else love this combo?

Agree. I picked one up after moving my entire collection out the door during 2018-19 It is now my only watch besides a Seiko 65 divers homage.
Although. I do have a jubilee bracelet on order. Just to change things up a bit.

I went to a White Tie shindig last month, and was stressing which watch to wear, but I once I got there, I saw a lot of gents wearing Apple watches. It seems like these days any Rolex can be a great "ONE" watch.

I very frequently wear my sub with suit and tie. No one has ever said a word. Nor would they ever. Because I'd have to give them an old school, James Bond ass whooping!

day date 36 for me. Durable, understated (due to size), and perfect for any occasion. I had to buy a vintage model due to cost, but I love it.

I personally do not. I’d MUCH prefer an explorer vs a smooth and oyster DJ (of any size). Brushed lugs are way more versatile and it is a true sports watch. The DJ 41 (at 39ish mm) with jubilee and flutted would be the only DJ combo I’d go for.

To each their own.

I do love the roulette wheels on certain 36mm DJs though.

I'm not sure this is possible? Your perfect is not my perfect.

Actually - it might be.. spooky... what is your perfect watch, let's see if we share the perfect watch vibe?

OP I have the same watch but on a jubilee bracelet and agree with you. I am wearing it as my “one watch” every day and I think it goes perfectly with everything. I thought the jubilee might look too dressy or “bling” to wear day to day, but the black dial and smooth bezel balance it out. Am in love with the watch.

I just got the exact same model (126200, black dial, smooth bezel, oyster) as my first Rolex because I agree, it seems like the perfect everyday watch.

I also looked at the previous 116200 models, the older 36mm Explorer 1, and some OPs in both 34mm and 36mm. Those are great alternatives but chose the 126200 because of some little details: thinner lugs, increased power reserve, easylink, blue lume, and lack of railroad track or numbers on the minute track.

I wish it still had the roulette date wheel though
