I think you're right.

For me, I like both dial versions of the SS. BUT, most of my watches are black dials so I would much prefer the white because I like a versatile collection so I have a watch for all moods and fits.

I would not turn down a black at retail though.....duh

The silver sub dials are what for me make it stand out. You point is very valid but I think the black looks so slick compared to the white. It just looks like such a luxurious finish.

As long as you like it, that’s what matters.
It would be boring if we all liked the same thing

In the end, the best choice is one of each.

I had opportunity to purchase either, and after trying them on in person I chose black. The white takes great pictures but the black is an all around beauty.

White 116520 will ultimately trump all the SS Daytona’s. It’s the most unique of any other Daytona model. White with silver sub dials. No other white Daytona has that and it was by far, by far much more popular than the black 116520! Ever more so than the current models. The white Daytona’s have always out performed the black but the 11650 and the 116500 are too similar. Just wait and see my friends. Cheers!!!

Let me guess. You have a white 116520.

Maybe, coz 116520 white is a unisex watch!

Probably because the grays got word from “their sources” that production is slowing to get ready for the 21 releases so supply will be even less. Clearly the grays know way before us as they seem to be right on with pricing.

I somehow agree. My favorite among the modern Daytonas.

I buy my watches and decided years ago to add watches but not sell or trade any of them. Hearing about a spike in prices, I wish I cared from an owners perspective.

I totally understand that. I traded my way up to a YG DD in 1983. I wish I would have had the foresight to have kept the 1979 Submariner date and the 1982 TT GMT Master II I traded along the way. At this point, I wouldn’t trade my 116500 for any watch I have seen.

Perhaps it too monochromatic and more people prefer the contrast of the white dial. All personal taste.

Surely the people with that kind of cash had a good relationship with an AD
is it now purely "look at me! I can pay this amount for a watch!"

Not necessarily. The panda is about 20k over retail. You will need to spend a lot more than 20k on undesirable trinkets to get a SS Daytona. Yes the Daytona is over priced on the grey market. For some people buying it from the grey market makes more sense financially if they really want the Daytona.
