I wish Rolex would make multiple sizes on most of their sports lineup, but for some reason it's just not something they like to do very often.

Because when they were designed originally, form followed function. Getting a smaller watch that could go that deep, have a dive bezel, and remain legible probably wasn’t possible. So it was a 40mm watch. Just like the men’s DJ/DD were traditionally 36mm: that’s what it took to accomplish the desired goals. Seems lost on many today, who primarily see watch sizes as fashion statements.
