Just wondering if this is worth saving for a good price, or if the discoloration isn’t really patina and more damage. looks like an early Mk2

An update following a recent thread in the vintage section, where a 1680 has been serviced and has a new type of service dial.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...=807747&page=3 The watch was serviced through an AD in July/August 2021 and has a noticeably different dial print to the Type A - C. A couple of obvious differences are that the two lines of Submariner and 660ft = 200m are of the same length with 660 and 200m at the two ends of Submariner and with quite a gap between each and the text ft =. SWISS at 6 O'Clock is above the 29,30 and 31 minute markers, whereas previous service dials have SWISS contained between and not above the 29 and 31 markers. So there is now a "Type D" Service dial. It would be good to see further examples posted when available. In the attached thread the dial is white luminova, so no examples of this dial with "toothpaste" markers. |

I love the low profile non Cyclops look but cannot bring myself to take the leap, I am afraid of any damage that my occur in exchanging.

1 year and still haven't found another example of this service dial type.
However, all is good, keeping good earth time and dreaming of space. Happy summer you all! |

At last my friends! I found it. My service luminova dial (swiss only) for a 1680 sub. It's on sale in chrono 24. Quite expensive if you ask me I think my ad took less than half. But anyways. Tell me what you think. This is arguable the type D service dial.

Now that I take a closer look I think that the vintage edge has been lost. But let's give it some time. It is surely within the tradition

Exactly, this is the type D. I think the fact that they aligned the writing makes it look a bit less vintage.
