Put me in the date column. I LOVE the bubble and I find the date to be useful...

I much prefer the symmetry and simplicity of the original submariner. I’ve never really needed to have a date on my watch.

I love my 114060 but if I were only going to have one watch, I'd probably get one with a date.

There are SO MANY "date" functions to view throughout my day, why add one more to my wrist to clutter a masterpiece dial?

For a one watch collection go with what attracts you more. There’s no right or wrong and because you will only own one it’s even more important. Many will say for one watch get a date. But really, what’s the difference if you like the no date more? Keep thinking through until one calls to you more. That’s the one you get.

For just a one watch I'd go with a date. You'll find that you use the date all the time, especially once you get used to it! If you are considering something without a date to pair it with, maybe try a Exp I!

I don’t really use the date on my watches & I like the symmetry of the Sub.

I own both date & no date Rolexes. Personally, I would go with the “date” if it was my one & only.

I prefer the date model. I use it often and find it easier to simply look at my watch than to pull out my phone when I need to know the date. One place where I find myself using it often is at the grocery store when I'm buying meat or fish and checking the expiration date!

I used my 5513 as my only watch for many years. If I bought a never version I would prefer the no date version. The newest version I would buy today would be a 14060M. It’s still the classic proportions of the original watch. I never missed a date function ever on a watch. If I grab one watch in a rush it’s still the 5513 as it has no date to set. Just set the time and go.

My phone, admittedly a very modern and expensive one, also has the time on it.

I bought my first Rolex new in 1985, a stainless Datejust that I still have. I bought my second new in 96, a GMT2 Coke that was stolen in 2019. For the last 36 years, at the beginning of most months, and anytime I let one wind down, I had to dick around with the date. It's a trivial issue I'm sure, but it annoyed me. I eventually came to understand that I never used the date function, as I always know what the date is. When it came time to get around to replacing the GMT I started to do my homework, and while I was originally thinking that I would get a new GMT, I started looking at the no date Sub. I reflected that that was what I wanted to buy when I got the GMT and ended up with the Coke instead as that was what they had. I always liked the simplicity and subtlety of the Sub and when I realized that I could get one WITHOUT a date that nailed it for me. Never again will I have to screw around with the date on this watch, though I still have to do it on the DJ... If I were to replace the DJ today I would get an OP for these reasons. The face looks better and more balanced, the cyclops isn't sticking out (mine always show additional wear because I'm hard on them) and there are no issues with resetting dates. Hands down... No Date. Make a no date GMT with an oyster bracelet and I'll buy that too!

I'm always for the no date because of the purity of the history behind it as the first sub, and also the Sub in the classic James Bonds. It also just looks better without a date IMO.

I have very close to zero need for the date function on my wrist and I can think of very few watches that wouldn't look better without the date.

My goal is a 100% no date collection by Pi day this year.

No-date. It's the cleanest, most classic look. I have a 2-liner ND 14060M.

But it's up to personal preference. The ND's are super-hot at the moment.

If I could only own one watch - it would be a Sub without date.

In terms of size on the 2020 subs, is there a difference? I know on the 5 digits the Sub case was slightly smaller than the Date version.

If you could only have 1, what version would you go with?
Really it's the wrong thing to ask others what you should do when it comes to watch choices. If you don't know then you shouldn't be buying; just saying!!!

I've had multiples of both.

The date is nice.

Gotta remove the panty line (cyclops) to get the best of both worlds. Also the 16610 is a smidge larger than the 14060/M. 6 digits I'd get the 114060 or new reference.

After multiple 5/6 digit subs I hunted down and made my own take.

16610 with 16610LV hands and cyclops removed. Flat 4 bezel and most importantly SEL with lug holes.

Hate the cyclops, only reason I avoided the date - then just got rid of it with a hammer and knife.

I know one thing, whatever you get will become part of you after wearing it for a few years. I literally had a year and a half of mourning after my GMT was stolen. I was finally able to move on this winter.
