Mine is a september 2020 5990.
Also have the same problem, exactly like OP's and JR16's Pictures. At first I thought it was some stain from food.. but it appeared to be perfect circle and at all four sides. cleaned it but there is still circle marks without rust. I am still confuse of what to do.. my dealer is not at my home country.. logistics during covid is serious problem. |

I have looked over the photos from the previous posting, and believe the reddish material is a corrosion product rather than simple rust. I would further speculate that it comes from inadequate removal of the highly corrosive soldering flux used when the pins and attachments were soldered in the bracelet. If this is indeed correct, which it might well not be, the material could be removed by lightly polishing the surface. I hope you will let us on the forum know when you get this attended to as to what the cause was.

Can you share pictures? This is a bit concerning given that 5990 is now $59k

No soldering? These are friction fit pins and sleeves. I have adjusted my bracelets personally. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Reading all this makes me glad my Patek dates from around 1998. Faultless.

Oof....
This brings back memories of the “Geneva Seal” vs “Patek Philippe Seal” discussions. No problems myself but definitely looks like faulty bracelet/link production |

what was the outcome here ? i wouldn't be totally surprised if vintage does play an issue.
all over the construction industry cheaper, imported metals are being used and it is noticeable. bearings rusting out in 2 yrs, as opposed to 15. soft solder/welded joints with diminished integrity. seeing it all. but you would think patek has a firm grasp on their stock metals. |

Funny I should come across this. My white gold caseback on my 5960 has tarnished in a section after 3 weeks...

White gold is actually yellow gold with other materials added to change its color - typically palladium or manganese. Most white gold jewelry is coated with rhodium to whiten the metal, which I know Patek at one time did but ceased since the rhodium gradually wears away.. Without the rhodium coating, the alloying materials undergo some changes over time and the gold will begin to turn somewhat yellow again. This should be a lengthy process, however.

Was there a conclusion to the white gold tarnishing question? I must have missed it.

As I always say in those cases, stick to Rolex. Patek has become just a overhyped brand with very little substance to justify the pain of dealing with them. Just my opinion.
