Shipping Jubilee Bracelet
Based upon the helpful recommendations of many of TRF's members, I have my SS/18k Jubilee bracelet packaged and ready to go to Hong Kong for restoration. I want to insure the bracelet and be able to track it's shipment progress/delivery overseas.
What would be the proper/preferred shipping method from the US and are there any Customs issues I should be aware of? Thanks! Sevoguy |

Shipping bracelet
I'm waiting for my watch and braclet to come back from Micheal. I used the post office and I'm sorry I don't recall the exact method but there were 3-4 ways to get it there. I think we used regular air mail that had adequate insurance, 7-10 days to get there. Around $25. Just ask at the counter, they should be able to guide you. I did fill out a one page customs form. No big deal, "watch parts for repair".

Use the Post Office
The USPS has International (Global) Priority Mail. That was what Michael recommended for my shipment. You can add insurance to it. Figure on one week from the US to Michael's Post Office Box, and then know that at least late last year, he only picks up mail a couple of times per week.
I may be foolish, but I figured the lower the profile the better, so I didn't even add insurance or tracking to it....I just bundled it up and send it in the small cardboard envelope. I labeled the customs declaration 'metal band', not that the Hong Kong Customs authorities care. Michael returned the shipment via Hong Kong Post registered service and he gave me a tracking number to follow the package as it winged its way accross the Pacific via Alaska. The return shipment took 3 days. Insure and track, or not, but USPS is best. Good Luck. |

Thanks for the helpful feedback folks!
NKO, I'm shipping it so that Mr Young can work his restoration magic on my bracelet. It's acquired a great deal of stretch and needs some TLC. Thanks again guys! Sevoguy |

Thanks JJ. Will post pics as you requested, and Peg sends her very best.
FYI, I sent the bracelet to Hong Kong today. Shipment went USPS priority air, delivery in 3-5 days, insured for $2000, with return delivery notification service. Total cost $40 US. Not a bad deal as far as I'm concerned. btw, RSC in Dallas priced me a new replacement 18k/SS Jubillee bracelet for my Datejust: $2500, but would credit me for the value of my original bracelet, if I decided to submit same. I felt that sending it to HK was the better way to go. Mike Last edited by sevoguy; 28 February 2007 at 11:21 PM.. |
