AC Advice for Travel
Hi Everyone;
Seeking your collective wisdom... I live in Tokyo and travel to the US frequently on business. Just acquired a 5146 and wondered if any of you would share any tips on managing an AC on long trips going East. Do you just advance the time forward to the destination on the hands and then use the pusher for date to get everything all synched up? Does advancing the date mess with the moon phase or other indications? Lastly, I also assume that traveling back to Tokyo from the US i can just advance the hands forward to the time there... correct? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Hope eveyone has had a fantasitc Christmas. |

Interesting question. I wear an IWC Da Vinci (Perpetual Calendar Chrono) and travel east to India from my NYC office. Moving the hands forward is obviously not an issue but moving back can be a big issue as you mentioned.
In those situations, I have a mental rule that the sensitive times are 8pm - 4am, so no moving of the hands backwards between those times. I basically just then wait for a safe time to move the hands backwards that is safe for both timezones. For me since India is now 10.5 hours ahead, I would move the hands backwards around 6pm India time, which would be 7:30am NYC time, thus avoiding the 8pm-4am red-zone! hope that makes sense!! |
