Permanent link removal - 1601 jubilee oyster 2-tone (early 70s)
Because I can't reply to my prior thread (sorry to jam-up the forum):
Went to the Rolex HQ here in NYC, and they said that they would remove a permanent link (my 1601 2-tone early 70s oval jubilee band is kind of stretched and as tight as it can get, and I'm a really skinny/tall dude with thin wrists, so it's still loose). A few questions (have been looking here and other forums but haven't found a consistent response): 1. does removal devalue the watch? 2. if the link is removed/destroyed, would it possible later on to add another (OEM from Rolex)? I understand there will be a tapering issue, but my OCD only flares up once a week or so... 3. how much tighter could it get? i need like 1/4" or so... I usually wear my watch slightly loose, but I don't want this replacement (my other one was stolen) to wear too quickly. Any other thoughts? Thanks!!! Thanks! |

Did they actually tell you they would cut the link and the solder the band back together? The the RSC in NY usually refuses to work on Jubilee stretched bands, especially with gold or all gold.

They said they would cut the link then sort of "squeeze" it back together. They were reluctant to do this, though.

you will be very pleased with the results and yes the removed link could be reinstalled by the jeweler anytime as they are pros with working on gold. you will not de-value the bracelet if a pro on 47th st. does the job. they are the best of the best in the trade. |
