Rolex AD dodgy or legitimate offer of sale.
I had the oddest experience with a Rolex AD.
In there window they have an ex display section. These watches it is claimed by the AD are not technically pre owned as the dealer is clearing old discontinued stock. The AD said there name is stamped on the warranty card and the customer gets the remainder of the 5 year warranty and all stickers are taken off the watch. They are selling a Date Just 2,for £3995!!! This sold for £5250 originally. In contrast the grey market jeweller is selling ta similar DJ2 watch at £4750 from 2016 with remainder of Rolex warranty. Are Rolex allowed to sell old discontinued stock like this or does AD sell at full retailer. The security guard would not let me take pictures. Is this legit??? |

This is probably stock that has been on display and handled so many times that they can’t sell as new anymore.
Is this Goldsmiths by any chance? |

This is what I don't get. They are offering at a hell of discount. They say ex display but the AD is the original owner of watch and their name is stamped on the card. I would have warranty from date of stamp so not full 5 years, it would be remainder of warranty. all the stickers are off. The security guy got defensive and I could not take picture.
Can an AD offer the watch for sale like this???? I don't know wether to make an offer or report my findings to Rolex UK head office in London St James |

If they are an AD it is legitimate. Old Stock, returns, etc. Save the money and buy the watch you want if they have it. The warranty follows the watch not the customer.

No Goldsmith do not do Rolex in Bournemouth now. Charles Fox is AD, the shop in the arcade in Bournemouth town centre. They have about five Rolex's being sold like this.

If the discount isn’t enough for you to want to buy from this AD I would just move on.
Would you be more comfortable paying more from a grey dealer than this AD? |

Thoughts?
What do you guys honestly think about this watch. Considering new Rolex offerings is this a desirable watch anymore?

If you like it and it looks good to you. Then it looks good to me! I wouldn’t be too concerned about new offerings. We all want the latest and greatest, but when it comes to watches and tastes, latest isn’t always best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I currently have an OP39 rhodium purchased new from AD. I love OP39 and like the date just two. Considering deal from AD, should I flip OP39 and go for date just 42? or is OP39 still desirable? |

As far as the DJ II you are considering I love that dial. The blue is stunning. Also not a fluted bezel fan so at that price if I was in the market I would buy it. I have the DJ II silver Arabic blue with a smooth bezel. Love it. You are being offered a great price on the one you pictured. Discontinued model so if you want it get it. They will be harder to source from an AD soon |

I wonder whether by "display" they mean watches purchased by the dealer to be worn by members of the staff while on the sales floor?
Sort of like when car dealers sell their "demo" vehicles on the "new" vs. "used" lot, but they have miles and the warranty has begun ticking. |

Warranty cards are not populated by the AD until the point of sale, so that is why the discount and remainder of the warranty...this is technically a pre-owned watch! The AD can spin it any way they want, but if you are only getting the remainder of the 5-year warranty and not the full 5-year warranty, then it is pre-owned! Also, I’ve never seen the AD written on the card as the original purchaser either...very odd! Let’s us know what you decide. |

Forgive me, but it seems that you are put off because the price is too low, and you can buy it from an AD for less than from a gray dealer. You are wondering if you should report them to Rolex since they are a Rolex AD and their price isn't high enough for you?
This sounds like so many other posts on here, except exactly the opposite.

Sort of the way a certain Volvo dealer, located just off the Ike, "accidentally" neglected to mention that Overseas Delivery ("OSD") vehicles, while new, had their warranties start when the dealer claimed them in Sweden, not when the customer purchased them. |

Selling below retail is fine, it's when they sell "used" but look brand new pieces for grey market prices that I get very suspicious.

If an AD ask over MSRP it's not good and if they offer below it's again no good. What and why on earth would you report something

When you pay for something in AD it is supposed to be a great experience with no question marks. Rather than does this sound good to be true and are the AD hiding something or working on a loophole.
