Two Datejusts => Datejust + Sub
Hello fellows,
I am considering to modify my small current collection (Datejust 116233 fluted Jubilé black stick dial + Datejust 116234 fluted Jubilé silver stick dial), giving away the all-silver Datejust to purchase a nice 14060M Sub. I have a small wrist (6.75") and was considering the 39 mm Explorer I as a new entry, but I read that it might be somehow "too empty" for its big dial and this would be a no-go for me. My ideal watch size seems to be 38 mm. So I'd like to go with the tool super iconic 5 digit Sub and keep the more luxurious two-tone Datejust, maybe even upgrading its dial. It will be a two-piece collection anyway, for €€€€ (Italy) cash availability , for need of rotation and because I don't trust safes, so more watches would be difficult to keep. I have also a vintage gold Omega, but its value is just the gold weight or little more and I use it rarely.. Thoughts about this? |

I’d say...good choice. Sub and DJ are a great combo to have.

I would say definitely add a sub (and subtract one of your DJs, if necessary).

You're right. The deal should be completed with a bronze or blue sunburst dial on my 116233. Bronze arab; blue stick).
I don't know if I will have occasion to try on the ExplorerI. I tried on a YM at my local Ad and didn't like it too much, they had only an Airking later and I missed a try on that. For sure the six-digit Subs are too chunky for me. Thanks for your all inputs!😊 |

Get the 16610 and don't look back! You will wear it every day. Maybe go with a light dial on the DJ for contrast?
I bought a 114060 thinking I would wear it occasionally so I didn't want to mess with the date. Wrong! |

I would add a 5 digit explorer II in your search as well. They wears great, adds second time zone functionality and a fixed bezel.

I checked out the Explorer II 5 digits. Unfortunately it's not the right aesthetics to me. I won't exclude altogether the 16610, there is more availability of them, quotation is about the same, date option is useful to me but I have it already on my Datejust, let's see for this. Here you can see also a photo of the Datejust with a more unusual dial that could match well with a two tone watch.

Try the sub on first if you can. You have two modern DJs. Make sure you are okay with the bracelet and clasp on the 5 digit sub.
If you like the vintage feel and a lighter bracelet then you are golden. If not, it may feel like a disappointment. The 5 digit clasps are bullet proof. |

My little current collection is quite classic, let's see what could happen.

I always wanted both as I thought they make a great couple. I had the datejust 41 black dial and wanted a change of pace. So i traded in my black dial for a blue. Really perfect combo for me. But like your thinking.

I dont find the Explorer to have any empty space on dial - but it depends if you have been staring at a watch with a smaller dial previously (like a sub) and become accustomed.
I have a 14060m and the Explorer 39mm mk2, on a slightly smaller wrist . The 14060m does look noticibly smaller in comparison dial wise, but the Explorer is still small, just clearer to read. My Pelagos makes the sub look very diddy. Sub doesnt get hardly any time these days. (Stays on rubber strap as the bracelet comparitive to new watches is sub par) |

I find the somewhat noisy bracelet really nice and very "Sub", I like it.
I'm considering to fit a maxi dial and hands to it, don't know, the dots seem still a bit small to me. The overall style and the alu bezel are perfect.

This is a really fine couple! I had to go 5 digit Sub for small wrist.
