At the car wash

Wearing my white dial ceramic Daytona while wiping down my car at the car wash yesterday, another WIS approached me and said he couldn’t believe I was wearing the watch at the car wash. He was wearing a digital or something but this watch was his grail... I told him, I’m a senior citizen and trying to enjoy my collection at every opportunity. Obviously I take care of my watches, this one is 3 years old now and looks like I just unboxed it. Moral of the story, life is short, get out there and wear those suckers and enjoy yourself!!!

Whatever! We know you're just the towel boy at the car wash, who jacked the owners Daytona!

LoL. JK

Great words. I've been babying my Pepsi ever since I got it a couple months ago.
Awesome pic and thanks for sharing some words of wisdom w/ us!

(I'm always envious of the previous, "1 watch", me. Now those watches have tons of battle scars).

I’d be too worried about accidentally scratching the car to wear any watch while washing it.

I know a lot of us are very protective of our watches and our cars but there’s an old saying, “might as well enjoy them because the next guy will!” Besides, this was a new automated car wash, I merely wiped a few drops off here and there. My cars look as good as my watches, no scratches

I don’t see many seniors driving a Porsche. Ha ha. My 70 year-old father drives a CPO 2017 Lexus ES.

COOL car and watch.

Gary,

Gorgeous Daytona and ride as well first of all but most importantly GREAT attitude!!!!!

I always tell my young boys to enjoy themselves each day as much as possible and probably why I wear my SD43 even when taking out the garbage or like this morning when I went to Loew's!!!!

Why not enjoy these things when we're here since we know its impossible to enjoy once we're gone?!?!?

Have a great day which I know you will!!

Using is fine and cars are to be driven and enjoyed - just like watches. I'm more of a car nerd than a watch nerd so this hurts me... I am also OCD and meticulous about how I care for my cars - way more over the top than most but a drive through scratch factory is the complete opposite!

People can be so serious! Oy!

I always wear my Daytona when washing my car. Looks so good in the sun, and they are two of my favorite purchases ever, so why not enjoy them at the same time. I wear my watch doing most things, but admit I have never taken my car to an automatic car wash. Closest ever was when I lived in an apartment and would take it to one of those spray-it-yourself manual car washes because I didn't have a driveway.

But to each his own. And beautiful watch!

The more shocking fact is.. Daytona and a Porsche and the guy still dries his own car at 70!

No point in buying them if you are not going to wear them.

Enjoy...

I personally like to use my Rolex as designed and actually more relieved when I have a few scratches on them

But I also understand people who put their Rolex on a pedestal.

As long as everyone is enjoying them however they choose, that’s a win win in my book

Remarkable really. Nobody raises an eyebrow about the thought of someone driving their £30k car (in some cases, many multiples of this) at 70mph (conservative!) with stones flying up at them all over the place. But wear a £10k watch to give it a wash and they’re surprised!

Mindset conditioning is staggering.

Sticking with cars vs watches.

I tie up tens of thousands and lose £10k on my cars each year, which my friends think is normal and if anything, they think I should spend more on cars!

I spend £10k on a watch that retains its value (in most cases increases in value), and they think I’m bonkers!

Equally, I will happily spend £100 on a decent bottle of wine with a meal, but I’d rather go topless than spend £100 on a shirt!

Wow great responses. First of all, I’m an in shape man just shy of 69, I hand applied a double ceramic coating on my daily driver suv so no swirls that I can detect. I also have a sports car that I do hand wash at home and in that instance I don’t wear a good watch. This was unusual that someone spotted the watch on my wrist and made that comment to me. It was all good!!

This struck me as really funny. I enjoy $15 to $30 bottles of wine, love love love hundred dollar shirts, love great shoes and before the virus interrupted our lives, we were enjoying international travel. Long and short of it, wear the watches or put them on a pedestal, we all here have much in common. Stay safe guys!!

At the car wash

Use it someone else will.

I’ve heard this is true for cars, jewelry, shoes, even your spouse!

Not using your watch/car is like not kissing your girlfriend so that she remain more valuable to her next boyfriend:)

True, my face was like hello or rob me but social distancing please? But I could see he had that same look on his face I do when I notice a cool watch...

Great cars! A guy from your neck of the woods inspired me on that particular brand back in 1969. His father actually but that’s my brand!
