Real or fake Rolex Submariner 5508 ?
I am interested in a Rolex Submariner 5508 but not sure if it is real or not.
The seller says that only the dial is not original. After my inquiries the watch looks original, but i am not completely sure. I would be happy if you could help me. |

I don’t know of any time in Rolex history where there was a UDT designation printed on the dial, so suspect it’s a replacement dial as you stated, or that was added to an original. I agree the movement appears genuine as does the case, with service marks on the inside of the caseback which can be a reassuring sign as guys don’t service fake watches very often. But please be cautious, in this era of crazy prices for vintage Rolex, there are fake cases and fake movements that are ridiculously close to original . However in the world of vintage Rolex, dial is everything, and not sure why you want a dial that is not original....

I’ve seen a sub with UDT engraved on its caseback before - but not on the dial.
Fourtane sold this one... https://www.fourtane.com/product/tur...iner-ref-5513/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The value in a 5508 would be in it's originality.
This one doesn't have much that can be verified. Even the case just doesn't have the expected look at the back sealing surfaces or end link areas, that you would find in a 60+ year old example of a dive watch. Could be a nice project watch, but the cost to find an original dial and insert, and to see if the movement matches the original case, or if the case itself is authentic, could be enormous. Some compromises though, and it could be a very nice daily wear.
