Quality issue on new explorer?

All, quick question to the Rolex experts here. I got the new Explorer 36 recently and noticed a “discoloration” around the bezel. Didn’t notice it at the AD and only after a few days of wearing, as I was wearing it at night. So I’m not sure if it was there from the beginning or happened while wearing. What does it look like to you? Polishing “spilling” over? Not properly brushed? Not something I came across with any of my other (non-Rolex) watches.

Have you tried cleaning it? Few drops of washing up liquid and warm water, make some bubbles and gently massage onto the watch with your fingers and rinse well with warm running water, looks like a build up grease from wearing and handling it from the pic

Perhaps it's a little residue effect from the protective stickers.
A light wash with a little dish soap under warm running water and a clean rinse may work.

I think it'll wash off. The brushed bracelet on my Sub can get similar marks which just wash off..

Quality issue on new explorer?

Mine does the same. Wash and dry evenly and it should disappear.

Let us know how it goes!

I just picked up this exact model from the AD last evening, and have similar patterns as on yours. My guess is that others on thread nailed it: residue from stickers or some such. I plan to ignore it, especially since I cannot see it without effort. I assume it will go away or soon be covered in the inevitable scratches.

Are you talking about on the bracelet end link? If so, I agree with everyone else here on a) possible reasons and b) that it's no big deal.

Also looks like right where the rim of the bezel protector used for shipping would be.

It’s usually the rest of the watch which is stained and not the areas closest to the lugs. The areas offering contrast are not touched by sweat or salt and oils from skin.

Soak in Club soda with some vinegar. Rub lightly with a wash cloth WITH the grain after soaking for 5min. Then rinse with cold water. Then wash with dish soap.

7 parts soda for 3 parts vinegar

Repeat if necessary.

Some causes:

Sweat and salt, bleach, or mineral acid can cause this.

Remember that if you're close to saltwater, rinse it.

Don't expose to concentrated chlorine. This will cause discoloration even if the chlorine is diluted.

Don't use any steel or metal brushes to clean.

Thank you very much everybody, will try with the cleaning later tonight to see if that removes the patchy look around the bezel and will drop a note here after that. Was just really surprised since I haven’t come across that type of look on any of my other watches, which are all steel, but all on straps, so maybe that makes a difference.

I just looked and see this on both my Explorer and OP34. On closer inspection, it looks like either a tiny bit of sticker residue or the dirt/smudges that don't wipe off when wiping with shirt/cloth (since they're too close in to the bezel/raised center part of the end link).

It's 100% just from the stickers.

Thank you all for the advice, it went away easily using water and a bit of cleaning liquid. Indeed seems it was related to the stickers!

Thank you! Very happy with it! I can see that some find the 36 too small, but for my wrist size I feel it still works and fits well with the overall understated nature of the watch. And have to give it to Rolex, the bracelet is outstanding and much better than any other I’ve had on my wrist.
