Daytona blue dial white gold Vs platinum Daytona
Hi all
I currently own white dial 116500 , black dial 116500 and blue dial white gold 116509 Daytona Considering to add platinum Daytona and choosing between standard vs diamond dial …. Not sure which way to go but leaning towards diamond dial Since both are “ blue dials “ , Talking esthetics only and price difference aside Platinum ice blue Daytona diamond dial vs white gold blue dial Daytona which one will you pick ? |

I guess the question that I have in my mind is that with current Daytona collection that I have will it be a good idea to add another blue dial ( although it’s ice blue !)
And I am not sure about the brown Bazel … I will appreciate if some one can tell me how it looks in real life … Is it too light brown? |

Platona is so much more special. I actually had a WG blue and traded it for Platona. So I highly recommend you do it! It’s also certainly different enough if you want to have both in your collection

I like the durability of the ceramic bezel, but I like the aesthetics of the PM bezel on the 116509.

I have all 3 you mention and they’re all very different. WG blue has WG bezel and dial looks black from across the room. SS ceramic black is its own look. Platinum is clearly neither of those two but “can” look like a SS ceramic white from across the room because ice blue dial is light with dark subdials. I wear the WG 80% of the time, platinum 20% of the time and SS never.

I think the question is really about the bezels and not dial colors here.
If you search for my posts, you’ll see I struggled with the brown bezel too. I found that in darker or indirect lighting the bezel will appear gray. Looks very nice. In direct bright light, like high noon in summer, I didn’t like the brown. Finally, I wouldn’t sweat the Diamond vs no Diamond dial since you can change between the two for now. |

I like the diamond dial just because it makes the dial more blue and a single color personally.

Platinum is a much harder metal so it will not dent as easily with gold or steel

Amazing collection of Daytonas you have, congratulations. I am in a similar position to you, SS and WG blue dial. But for me the choice is easy, I have been practically begging my AD for the platinum with baguette version. I don’t see them as too similar, I could very happily have both. Good luck! I was pleasantly surprised by the brown in person.
Would I prefer it in black? of course, but I did quite like it to be honest, sometimes it's a dark grey with the reflections hiding the brown, then in bright sun its brown, but with the ice blue it works great. With regards to dial. I (to my surprise as I don't like diamonds for men) lean heavily towards the diamond dial. It also would be the only one in your collection with no contrast on the sub dials so might be a little more special :)

I had a plain dialed Platona and liked it.
This question of the browness of the bezel is fairly irrelevant since there is no other option. You either want a Platinum Daytona or you don’t. On diamond dial vs plain - if you particularly like a pure ice blue dial (without the brown subdial rings) then the diamond dial is perfect. Dr. Tom and I have compared them in the sunshine at his paddock before - I liked his diamond dial better than mine. As for owning too many similar Daytonas- it can’t be done! The more the merrier. No on the diamonds,IMO. The ice blue/ceramic brown is perfectly balanced and looks so much better on the wrist compared to pics. It’s heavy on the writ in a very good way.

Platinum Daytona looks best with baguette hour markers.
If you get it from Rolex boutique/AD, whichever comes first, take that one otherwise you might have to wait for long time. You can swap the dial later. |

Diamond dial leans the watch more dressy/fancy, contrasting sub-dials match the bezel and give a more casual look…IMO.
Absolutely no wrong choice, both are absolutely fantastic, and the blue of the PT dial….is much better than the blue on the WG version. This is my personal opinion of course. |

I’m not a diamonds guy, but this is probably the only model where I lean that way.
Good luck |

I would buy the diamond dial if I was in market to buy.
How you make that happen is another story, they are very hard to come by and pre-owned prices are mental. The WG Blue dial is probably my most worn Daytona, similar level to the WG steel dial oysterflex. At the RRP of the platinum Daytona, there are so many options that I would probably pick before. Anything from the ALS Datograph perpetual, PP 5170P, even some earlier PP 5270's, PP 5905, and if you are lucky to have a good relationship with AP, the RO O-W. I do appreciate that all of these do not come with a full PM bracelet, so if the complete platinum package and weight is important to you, the platinum Daytona is the one. Lovely watch. |

Baguette markers on single color dials are subtle imo. They blend in with the dial pretty well

Great to see the pictures and opinions on this thread. I have tried on both of those watches and own the following: both 116500s, the YG meteorite on OF and 5905P. For some reason I turned down the platinum Daytona which I still regret. I liked the blue dial for two reasons: PM bezel is different from my other Daytonas, solid subdials are different than the other ones I have. Felt like it added more variety to my collection but it seemed hard to read. However, if I get another chance to buy the platinum Daytona…I am going to ignore all of my own advice.

I don't care for the brown bezel. But that's me.

I think the platona is ugly and no interest. The white gold blue dial is my favorite Daytona currently. I also really like the yellow gold green dial. Prettymuch the only 2 references I find appealing. White gold and true blue is a nice combo.

Get which ever one is the most likely to be acquired IMO doc
You cant go wrong with either. If I had a preference I'd say the non diamond. I like the contrast of the brown subdials and bezel matching. If RG/116505 I'd maybe be more inclined to say diamond hour markers
