Rolex Gold DJ 4467, 6605, 116138 & 116238

I have always been a fan of the traditional 36mm Datejust, especially the gold models. After searching for 10+ years I was finally able to locate an all original 4467 - the first edition DJ, with the original jubilee bracelet.

I have added to my collection containing a 1950's 6605; and the more recent 116138 and 116238:

Thank you, considering it is almost 80 years old it’s in great shape and keeps good time. The date switched at midnight perfectly.

The two on left are fantastic!!!!
Congrats on the ‘certified chronometer’ two-worder with the 1/5th sec register.

Lovely, thank you for showing us these, that's a very nice 6605, and congratulations on that wonderful 4467.

Nice find. Did you receive any information as to history or previous owners? Enjoy!

Thanks 1M for sharing these with us!

Richard Carver had a strikingly beautiful gold DJ on Jubilee with a tiger eye dial. I think the early stone dial gold DJs were among the most elegant watches Rolex ever produced.

The elimination of the gold DJ at all was significant, but that 4467 in particular has SO MANY design elements whose loss is mourned -

The sharp 1/5 second chapter ring;
the no-lume alpha hands;
the minimal text, with only a printed coronet;
the (presumably) roulette date wheel; and
the milled/coin edge bezel (which, to my eye, is probably the most regrettable loss).

I believe that an updated version of this design, perhaps even at 38mm, would be extremely popular. (OTOH, I can certainly understand that a company which cannot even meet current demand sees no need to take new risks).
