Should I reject an allocation for a second 126720VTNR?

I received an allocation for a 126720VTNR on jubilee last month, and it's been on my wrist every day since. As a lefty, this watch has been on the top of my list and will remain there as my forever watch, since it's commemorating a few important milestones in my life with work + wedding.

But I'm in a dilemma. I was allocated this model at a Rolex-only boutique/AD with no purchase history, just a good relationship and a good story.

On the other hand, I've been building a spend history/relationship since early 2023 with a local showroom jeweler + Rolex AD. I'm likely going to get a call for another Sprite in the next few weeks leading up to my wedding.

Do I reject it, or take the allocation to hold/sell/gift to family member?

Let me get it.
It's one I've been waiting on but still haven't got the call.

If you aren't the flipper, you better ask for something else that you really want such as Pepsi or Daytona.

Not a flipper, and I'm pretty set on my current collection for a LONG while. Don't care for Daytona's, but could inquire about a Pepsi or Batman for a close family member.

I guess another question to add, will rejecting it for another model hurt my chances since they will suspect I got it from another AD?

Take the allocation and let a friend or family member buy it for MSRP plus tax. Unless it’s on the other bracelet than your first one in which case consider keeping it so you have both bracelets (if that’s feasible; I want my next GMT to be on oyster so I have both bracelets).

Let me reframe your question:

"Should I buy something I don't want?"

You're welcome!

When I was in a similar situation I went back to AD 2 to tell them that I’d purchase this watch and since I’m always honest with each of them, please remove my interest in X watch and add me to Y watch.
Conclusion: it works and the flow and relationship kept working

If you are buying it for a family member that is one thing. Taking it just to flip is another. If someone in your family wants one, buy it otherwise, let another person who wants it, get it from that AD.

But what if the next guy is just a flipper? I mean, there's no way to know if he's passing for a "real buyer" or just someone else to get flip and get lucky. (BTW I'm not saying he should buy it, just saying passing isn't automatically some noble act.)

Call the AD that had you on the list for the Sprite and let them know what you want next. Just treat other people how you would want to be treated. You don't have to explain to them you got the watch from someone else. By the way you did good getting this with zero purchase history from the boutique.

My personal opinion is that you should NOT take the second VTNR. You already have one!! And it is absolute madness to buy another one in order to build up purchase history. Why not get something else instead? Let the VTNR go to someone who really wants it.

This is why it's better to work with just one AD. Find a great AD that you really like and let that be your go-to.

You said in your post that you're "likely to get a call for another Sprite in the next few weeks". Good luck! It is still a hypothetical situation, though.

Personally, I wouldn't buy something that I didn't really want. I would instead be honest with the dealer and that way, I can apply a request or order for something that really excited me.

In a vacuum, of course that would be the case to work with 1 AD. However, in reality, it’s too opaque to know when one will get an allocated watch, etc. The OP found a second AD to ask who maybe had different clientele tastes and less people for that model, and that’s why he got it. There’s really only a select few who can stick with one AD and get everything on a wish list in a timely fashion.

No point buying something you already have. Why don’t you just choose a different reference at your AD’s to keep that connection?

Yea, leaning towards this or just withdrawing interest outright. Like I said, I’m happy with my current collection. Only reference I would put down would be something for my father.

Op, I would change my interest to a different piece you really want, there is no sense in getting 2 of the same even with a different bracelet. You should visit the AD wearing your new sprite and be honest with them, I’m sure they will appreciate it and someone else will get a chance to have a Sprite.

Good Karma

Love this. Yep, leaning towards just visiting them, being honest and changing interest to something else or just withdrawing entirely. I’ll still drop by to visit to check out other models and maintain the relationship, but I’m happy with my current collection.

This, if I'm unsure, or I no longer want the watch, I've updated my registrations to reflect it

Just call the AD and let them know you are no longer interested. Add a watch to your interest list or just let it go for now if you are not ready to buy.

Either say you don’t want it anymore and express interest for another watch but this might take you down on the waitlist for the other watch. Or if you have a friend that wants the watch and you know he won’t sell it, buy it and sell it to him for retail price

Should I reject an allocation for a second 126720VTNR?

This is only answer that makes sense. Let someone else, whose been waiting, too, get their next VTNR. Put yourself down for a Batgirl, or something!

Wish I had these problems lol. Seriously. But I think showing that you turned it down and want something else would put you high on the list for something else coming in!

You can take the allocation and gift it to me my family member and brother. Mom will be so proud of you.

See you at the wedding and first rounds on me.

Happiest brother to @mojo_dojo.
