LeMans - Am I the only one

OK So, Am I the only one that isn't that fond of this piece? I mean I like it but not more then some other designs def not near a Platinum. The sub dials look like stickers that were put on there. I don't hate it but price aside there are many better choices. This is my opinion, don't hate but what do you think? Is it really that great of a design or is it just over hyped?

Honestly, I think Daytonas are over hyped. I own a couple of Daytonas (SS white dial and a TT white dial).

Don't get me wrong, the Daytona is a great looking watch, and I love them, but as far as functionality, I much prefer my GMT Masters or Subs. I'm not a race car driver, nor do I need to time anything to a precise second, so the sub dials really don't do anything for me. Would I say "no thank you", if my AD offered me one, HECK NO!

I just find myself reaching for a Sub or GMT more than my Daytonas simply because there is no date function. That's just my $.02.

Sorry, you may be the only one.

I am also a HUGE fan of the Daytona, and this would be IT for me. I would go with the YG version, but honestly they missed on one thing imho- a brushed bracelet would be absolutely insane on this piece.

It's a unique watch + certain subset (minority probably here on TRF) of Rolex owners that equate "money = popularity" that lead to the high hype for the watch.

It's nice but the Platona for me is still king of the Daytonas.

I'm not crazy about any modern Daytona, but it's a fan-favorite and always enjoy when people get the watches they want via incoming posts.

It's a nice watch at the retail price. But at the current market price? hello no.

I think if I had more money, I would buy both.

Plus most of us you are asking don’t have the watch budget for either or both. So we’ll never really be able to experience them in a way that gives you a more in depth opinion.

Just buy what you like. Sounds like it’s the platinum

The bottom line is it's a Rolex and it does look good. They put a lot of thought into the sub dials to make them what they are. They are unique take a little getting used to but in the end it's another iteration of a Daytona what's not to like.

It’s the only PM Daytona I would splurge for if offered at MSRP and I’ve had four SS Daytonas from the last three generations. The Platona does nothing for me, brown?

The subdials on it are awesome and obviously an homage back to the original.

What is the significance of having the red 100 on the tac?

I don't love that Rolex made this, but aesthetics-wise: it's gorgeous.

Love the contrasting counters.

Especially yellow-gold.

It is over hyped, in fact any Daytona is over hyped.

I just don't get what all the fuss is about with Daytona's, people get all soppy and mushy for what I consider to be a pretty average watch.

The dials do nothing for me at all, having tried on black dials, white dials, gold dials and even a PM on Oysterflex every one I tried did absolutely nothing for me.

I find the dial cluttered and hard to read, I don't want to have to stop and study the watch to see what the time it, I should just be able to look at the dial and see the time instantly, this just cannot be done with the Daytona, maybe because the dial is too small.

IMHO, it's an over hyped, over rated and over priced watch. But others may disagree.

It’s definitely my favorite Daytona but it’s not special enough to warrant how they went about it.

By making it PM and limiting the numbers they just manufactured exclusivity. Which will equate to more hype.

It’s just a black chrono with white sub dials. My favorite chrono layout for sure but I wish they just made it SS and added it as an option. Then the YG version could have been the special one.

I have this so I’m plenty happy and I don’t find myself lusting for the Daytona what so ever.

I am a huge huge daytona guy and have 3 SS. I am looking to add JM by year end and platona next year based upon self-employed revenue goals. Next I am going that le mans but will take a few years. I hope the price will come in like it has for JM so I can buy it grey. I am not big into le mans but I am after it because it was reserved for the elites and I honestly want to stick it to the ADs and rolex by having it. (We all walk into the ADs and get shut down. Its time the enthusiasts turn the tables).

Daytonas are rocket ships in terms of investments over time so that is why I hover around them.
