I am a fan of a two watch collection because you have a backup when one needs servicing. My collection is down to two. As to your watches, a Patek and Casio would be a quirky duo. I like it.

For me I think the Gshock isn't versatile enough for dressy casual and sometimes the calatrava might be a bit out of place. A steel sports watch on bracelet might bridge the gap.

Cannot comment unless I know what "sell everything else" entails. There might be some better two watch combos in there.

I have three watch collection. Tudor Submariner (black bezel/face), Casio Illuminator for exercise and yard work. I have a Pulsar tank watch for Sunday Church as I a Methodist minister and need to wear a suit so I have it as my dress watch.

I like the simplify approach, but not sure I would have a G-shock as one of those two. I would say that's just a watch you have outside your collection for when your collection isn't sufficient or don't want to worry about it.

I would look to have at least one dress/business casual watch (leather strap) and one sports model for business casual/casual dress and then a G-Shock for the less than casual (gardening, cleaning, etc..)

I own the 5227R and love it (mine is non-T as I'm not a T fan, but the watch is excellent either way). I'm also getting the G-Shock GA2000S-1A, which is a new model that is fairly reasonable in size as far as G-Shocks go which matters on a 6.5 inch wrist like mine, it comes in a variety of colors as well.

So on both counts, I vote hell yeah. Cheers :-).

I have a GW-5000-1JF. Wonderful watch, which I wore to the office with suit and tie many many times until my 5164 arrived. That g-shock and a dress watch are probably the best combo.

The 5227 and G-shock is a cool duo. But it also depends on what activities you like to do outside work. If it is active sports, then the G-Shock would be great. If not, a SS Rolex would also fit nicely as part of the duo.

Calatravas look great when worn with a suit. Most of the time the watch will be covered by your sleeve and only you will know you are wearing a classic timeless dress watch.

The Explorer is a great all around watch as well!
