Too big?

Hi all. I own my breitling superocean 44 special for over a year and something. Lately ive noticed something and it started to bother me... what do you guys think? Is my watch too big for my wrist?? Its a problem cause im not going to sell it since it was the first "high-end" i bought and it has sentimental value to me. Still i would like to hear some opinions.

It does seem to overwhelm your wrist, but if you like it, who cares??? Same as when people think a watch is " too small." To small for what??? If you can read the dial, it's not too small!!!

A Breitling, like a Panerai, is meant to be a large watch.

It looks good on you, don’t worry.

Looks fine to me. If it were me, I’d wear it a higher on the wrist

By the time you get old and fat, it should fit you perfectly. Just kidding OP, wear it in good health.

It's big but it doesn't look ridiculous. And, yes, it's meant to be a large watch so enjoy it.

Coming from someone that has smaller wrists and a preference for even larger (47-48mm) dove watches...I like it.

Sometimes, wrist shots exaggerate the effect. Stand back a few feet from a mirror. Let your arms hang naturally. Hands open. The size may seem more in proportion than the close up wrist shots suggest.

Large watches have been the rage for a few years, so don’t worry. And, as noted by others, many Breitling models, especially with a military flavor, are intentionally massive.

In short, it’s the look. Like suit coats. Now, they tend to be quite a bit shorter in length than in the early 2000s. For example, compare Daniel Craig’s most recent Bond films to his first two. Styles change. Looks change. And, things go in cycles.

Also, if you have other watches that are smaller and wear them for awhile, then switch to this one, your first Breitling will look especially large, because your eye acclimated to the other watches. The same thing happens in reverse.

Wear the watch for a few weeks continuously. Your eye will come to see it as the “right” size. Same goes for a smaller watch. Your eye needs time to acclimate.

If, after all is said and done, it bugs you..then it bugs you and it’s time to move on. Put it aside for occasional use (and settings that are more casual or sport oriented, where it will blend in more). Perhaps gift it to someone special to you in the future. A relative perhaps. If it brings someone you care about happiness, you will derive satisfaction from that.

And, above all else, listen to your own opinion.

Take a picture in front of a mirror. Those close ups are so misleading. As long as lugs do not protrude the wirst it's fine. As said before, a Breitling can be big.

Looks good, enjoy! I used to wear 34 mm AirKing on my 7.25 inch wrist, but sold it. Miss it every day now. I wear anything from 39 to 51mm now. Variety...

It is a big watch as it was designed but the lugs don’t hang over your wrist so you are good to go. Looks good. Enjoy the watch. It’s really nice.

It looks a little big to me. But the important thing is that you are happy with it. It's a beautiful watch. Continue to enjoy it.

Looks great, continue enjoying it! I am wearing an SOHC 46 right now and have a 6 in wrist lol.

You can wear whatever you want as long as you are happy. "Standard" sizes are out the window these days. I only wear 42-46 except No Date ceramic Sub.

Wrist shots are horrible for sizing questions. Look in a full length mirror. Enjoy your watch!

Looks good to me. I felt the same way wearing a 46mm Navitimer, but I eventually got used to it.

Not too big at all. Only worry if you like it or not. That is all that really matters.

Too big, it emasculates your wrist, not a good look. Trade it in for a submariner, or sea dweller, it has better proportions...

There's no such thing as a Breitling being too big :-). But seriously you can pull it off, no issues.
