Attn: Rolex experts, Need help with this 16570.
Hi All,
Just got this Explorer ii from Japan. I’m a little concerned about the cyclops date window. It doesn’t seem to be as magnified as most I see. Of course I didn’t realize this until I got it in hand. Is this a problem? Or a replacement part? Or normal? Or just plain fake? Thanks guys/gals. And sorry for the sideways orientation of the pic Not sure how to fix it. Attn: Rolex experts, Need help with this 16570.
The experts won’t be able to tell from a single photo. Take clearer, up close pictures.
Also, best to take it to a local Rolex AD with an attached watchmaker to take a look at it. |

These photos are not enough to determine anything. The resolution is poor.

Wrong magnification. Do a quick google image search and you'll see the difference.

Date per se is magnified but what I find weird is the cyclops seem bigger than usual. Could be an aftermarket crystal.

You wonder if he’s going back to the sweatshop and telling them: ‘Not good enough, the cyclops doesn’t magnify enough! Get it fixed!!’

Well everyone, thanks for all of your input, even the ones out there who thought it was fake.
I brought it to a local AD and they said it was just an aftermarket crystal. They did a full service and installed an OEM crystal and is currently under final water pressure testing. They've had it for about a month now and said it would be ready some time next week. Once I get it, I'll show you all the refreshed version. Also it will on the original bracelet. Happy Holidays |

Good job on figuring things out the right way (going to the AD to have peace of mind), and lesson learned about buying suspect watches. Turned out a lot better than it could have.
I bought a 16570 from here several years ago and, at first, several people who saw it thought it was fake. I took it to my watchmaker who opened it up, serviced it and replaced the crystal and it's been a great timepiece. Cheers and wear it in good health! |

I happened to be wearing my polar 16570 when I opened the post and came to the right conclusion pretty soon thereafter based on the photos.
I'm glad it worked out so well. It looks great now.

Inspired me to dig mine out too:
It's a great (under-rated) reference, for sure. |

Was going to chime in and say the watch looked fine except it was likely a non-OEM glass/cyclops. Glad you got it sorted.

Well I greatly appreciate all the support you guys! Thanks so much, and yes lesson learned. I normally don't do things like that as I definitely know better, but hey, I got weak lol ... anyhow I LOVE seeing all of your 16570s !! especially the patina dials, some of yours are aging very well, it's partly why I bought mine because it's a 1996 with the Tritium dial. Now I'm even MORE excited to get mine back, unfortunately I have to fly outta town for 3 days so I'll have to get it next week as it's not ready yet but it woulda come in handy with that GMT function... I just love it, it's basically a GMT Master with a fixed bezel. Even though I'm still obsessed with the BLRO. Any of you have a GMT Master?

Ok everyone got the call from the AD and it's back and in great condition. The watch maker replaced with correct crystal (although this one has an etched crown at 6 o'clock, I'm actually not sure when Rolex started doing this as mine is a '96 so not sure if they did that back then but nevertheless this one has it now and I'm very happy) And after a full service she's back in action and smooth as ever! I know most prefer the polar dial but I just love this black dial, although both are nice in their own way so respect to all your polar owners out there!
Anyhow I feel lucky as I took a chance at an amazingly priced Rolex on Chrono24 and although it had aftermarket crystal, it's all fixed now with oem parts and in incredible condition. It was definitely a lesson learned and I'll never do it again like that but I'm grateful it worked out in the end. I'm also stoked it's a SWISS -T<25 dial, it'll be fun to see how the indexes age over time. Cheers everyone and happy holidays! |

Looks good.
The etched coronet on the crystal is what you will get with any replacement sapphire; doesn't matter the year.
