Trading the Rolex Explorer

I am thinking of trading my Explorer 214270 from 2019 for the Blancpain 7002 Gold that is currently for sale on the forums. I wanted to get people's thoughts, I love the Explorer it was my first Rolex and outside of enjoying the watch, there is everything that comes from owning a Rolex (retained value etc..). On the other hand, the Blancpain 7002 is a rarity as there are only 20 in existence, I don't know much more about it though. I would love to hear people's thought it would essentially be a straight trade plus a little cash to me.

Don't sell it if you'll regret it down the line. I've sold many things in my life that I only end up regretting or needing to buy back and losing money in the process.

Do not do it for that watch.
Now if it was another Rolex, ask me then.

The Blancpain is a lovely piece, and you have that beautiful movement on display to enjoy (assuming that you are happy with manual winding). It's usually better to add, unless you've completely fallen out of love with the watch that is going, but if the trade stacks up then why not? Diversity and moving pieces around is all part of the hobby/interest for many.

Completely depends on what else you have, if you absolutely love this watch and are not buying it just because its rare then go for it.

But if your Explorer is your only watch I would add the Blancpain or leave it altogether. It doesnt make a good daily watch and you would inevitably end up adding a Rolex so why take the loss on the trade now.

I have sold 5 Rolexes since 1979. I currently have 4, Plus two more incoming and I will never sell one ever again. I’m a little older so take this from someone looking back and having that regret..

OK, I wouldn't overcomplicate it then, what do you prefer the Blancpain or the Explorer?

I wonder what it is about people commonly regretting selling their first Rolex. Needless to say, I am definitely following this school of thought.

I sold my first Rolex. Didn’t think twice. How often do you wear the Explorer (vs. the sub)?

Don’t keep a watch you don’t often wear or enjoy because it was your first.

I personally wouldn’t make that move.

That BP is a nice watch, esp in Gold. And that decorated movement. Depends which one you like more. Tons of explorers are around, so I wouldn't let that prevent you from trading it, if thats what you want.
