Case size is just one part of the equation. Lugs shape, case shape, etc matters a lot. FWIW, 42 mm is the sweet spot for me.

My preference is 38 to 41 but if it sits low, maybe a bit larger (and if it sits high, maybe a bit smaller!)

For my 7 1/2 inch wrist. 36mm-40mm is my preference.

For me personally the lug to lug length matters more for comfort and fit.

I agree—lug to lug matters. For example, a 39mm Royal Oak has a 49mm lug to lug, so as a consequence wears larger than its case size. The other consideration, perhaps more than wrist circumference is width of the wrist. A large round wrist may not be as wide as a smaller, flatter wrist.

7.25 -7.5 inch wrist. I like a 42-44mm sports watch and 40mm dress watch. I know unpopular but it looks great and modern imo.
