I agree. 36 mm Explorer is my favorite.

I think the last watch I wore that was this size was a vintage Girard-Perregaux hand cranker that I bought because I was attracted to the dial, this may have been about 10 years ago. That watch came and went, but it wasn't because of the size, it was sold to fund another interest or project.

I've been wearing big(ger) watches for the better part of the decade. Main watches in my current arsenal consist of a Speedmaster Pro Moon (42mm on the Omega NATO) and a Black Bay Steel (41mm, on Bracelet) - Both great watches that I love. I also have a Glycine Airman, which is probably around 42mm, and a bit of a monstrosity, but it makes a good beater work/travel watch.

In my youth I never bought watches according to size, it wasn't a thing back then. I liked it, I bought it.

All this said, Govberg/Watchbox perfectly sized this watch for me, and I have been wearing it all day. Somebody recently said that it's an "Optical Illusion" going from big watches to small, and now after having this watch on my wrist all day, I have to agree. It is. I'm starting to think that 36mm might be the perfect size, at least for ME. The watch is ridiculously comfortable to wear, I don't even know that it is there! it's totally legible and understated. I think I am in love. LOL. This is the first Rolex I fell in love with, and after 30 years, I made it happen. I really dig this 36mm Explorer. It's perfect in every way! And FWIW, my wrist is about 7 inches, maybe a touch under.

Yes, it’s a great watch, and size is perfect on my 7 1/2 wrist. It’s true, when I take off my SS Submariner/Date and put on the 36mm. It definitely feels like it’s too small. Within time, I love the size. It’s more comfortable than my Submariner. Personally I feel a 36mm DateJust is a must in someones watch collection.

I actually added the 39mm white dial OP to go with my SS Submariner/Date, and my 36mm white dial DateJust. The white dial on the 39mm OP is more eggshell white. Where as the DateJust is a more bright white.

Happy to report the watch is currently running +1 second after about 22 or so hours. So that's a plus.

Also, this is an A serial 14270 watch, so I guess it dates it to the late 90's. It also has the Non Tritium Dial, and the Luminova still glows appropriately with a charge. End links are 558B and the Bracelet is 78790 with fliplock.

Congrats!

My perfect two watch collection would be last of the 36mm explorers with the engraved rehaute and sel bracelet, with a day-date 36mm with the ceramic sleeves in the president bracelet (2019) fluted bezel, white Romans dial. As yet not made, but I can dream.

I think the large watch trend has ran it’s course. When I wear a 36 for a few days then put on my Sub or Daytona it feels very oversized.

This is always so funny when these threads start. It depends on your WRIST size. One would think it would be obvious the perfect size for small wrists is not the perfect size for large wrists.. I'm sure this is not the last thread though.

I just put on my Speedmaster Pro, and while it's a fairly big watch at 42mm, on the NATO it's really a comfortable watch to wear. It isn't overly heavy, and the case profile is highly refined, Omega knocked it out of the park with that one. But man, my Tudor BB is a chunky mofo. Here is a pic of my small collection...These are the good ones, I have a few beaters. Bourbon btw.

I've always been a SS guy, but man , I am warming to a TT 36mm Datejust with Jubilee and the Champagne Dial, it's classic as all hell!

That Datejust you posted, WOW. Forgive me, but is that an uncommon model? Beautiful Watch, I keep looking at it and wanting it.

i think appreciation of 36mm watches come with age. i used to stick to 40mm and above.

but as i have "matured" 36mm feels more natural
