Got the call but ...

not what i was hoping for.

Local AD called today to say they just got deliveries of: full everose GMT rootbeer, SS YMII and TT SkyD.

I guess times are hard. Am not even looking for those.

Reminded them what i want if at all are: SS Daytona white for my father in law and Explorer II polar for myself.

Am happy with my Rolex stash. Will just add a YG DD when i turn 50.

But if i chance upon a polar conveniently at retail (better if discounted), will be happy to get one.

I feel your pain. I recently had such a call with the initial excitement turning 180 degrees to disappointment. I said no with a smile, hoping the next call is the one.

The last time this dealer called me was for a SS SeaDweller last year. Politely said no as well.

You’ve got to say yes to the first call to get the second it feels like

If I could afford the RG CHNR I would have taken that one. Hold out for what you want, I hope you get the Daytona or Explorer II soon!

You might not get that SS Daytona without buying other pieces when the AD calls. Turning these down certainly won’t put you closer to your Daytona.

Wish I had a son in law like this.
Perhaps you could have bought the Yachtmaster for the father in law and explained that you’d replace it with the Daytona when you get that call.
Trading or selling the YM shouldn’t be a problem.
As a father in law, I’d be delighted with this
Definitely wouldn’t buy the full gold GMT in the hope that it would increase my chances of getting the Daytona. (Couldn’t afford one anyway!)
Good luck sourcing the watches you want.
Ps I’d get something in writing to say that if you marriage breaks up the father in law has to return the Daytona........hoping that doesn’t happen.

I get crickets from my AD, I have to call them every month or so and I get the feeling I may annoy them. Oh well.

Thanks for all inputs.

Yes i know the game but i wont play it.

I only buy what i want.

And reason this AD calls me is i have good relationship with them.

They size my other watches even non Rolex ones for free.

If i recall, got a WG Submariner from them and a RG President DJ and TT YM for my wife from them.

They did tell me if they get a SS Daytona and ExpII, they will call me. They just have not gotten one since i asked last year.

My father in law wouldnt like gold. He has several gold watches already.

He just wants the daytona.

I actually want to get it from grey already but my “boss” (his daughter) forbids me.

My thinking: He should be able to get what he wants and enjoy now that he’s still strong and capable.

My wife agreed on a compromise re daytona. Only from an AD. Since unrealistic abroad, told the two local ADs here to call if they have one.

You should pay the premium and get one and when your AD calls you then you sell it and even if you take a small loss you still make out like a bandit. And if you never get the call then at least your father in law didn’t waste years waiting for one.

Exactly! That’s how it works. You can’t just buy SS Daytona’s and Pepsi’s. It doesn’t work that way.

Decided to pay the AD a visit anyway. Nothing better to do.

The rootbeer GMT was sold already.

The SS YM 2 looked nice. The white dial goes well with blue ceramic bezel. Too bad i forgot to take a picture. Almost tempting. But am holding out for the Polar.

What surprised me was that the YM2 was more expensive than the SkyD and even the Daytona and GMT2 at retail.

So the regatta timer complication is more expensive than an annual calendar complication or a chronograph complication?

I got one of those calls too recently....

I deal with 2 AD's that are more or less in my area. I was looking for a Bluesy and was on the list with both of them. The one that's further away from me got one within days, and I went to grab it the same day they got it in and called me. On the way home, I stopped at the second AD, showed them that I already have a Bluesy and to take me off the list. Fast forward to May of this year... the second AD is still closed due to the plague and the first AD, the one I got the Bluesy from, happens to have the DJ 41 I wanted. Went to grab that one and land up seeing a Rootbeer on my SA's arm.....I texted her a week later that I want one. Shortly after I went to the second (closer) AD and told them to put me on the list for a Rootbeer as well, the SA noted that there's a lot of people on that list, but that they do get them in regularly...

1 Week later... the closer AD calls.....we have your watch for you....you wanted the Bluesy right?
