Submariner 1680 White Dials - Serial Number Range for each Mark

As someone rather sadly obsessed with 1680 white dials, I’ve tried to put together a reference thread that should be read in conjunction with other threads relating to White 1680 dials including:

It is generally accepted that the three different Mk White Dials were all used throughout production of the White 1680, rather than sequentially.

Having reviewed historical posts on a number of watch forums and looked at white 1680’s offered for sale over the past few years, there is a consist serial number range for each of the white dial Mk variations.

I’ve listed below a total of 146 1680 White’s in serial number order (where the numbers are partial, I’ve listed those with the most digits first).

As you can see from the list, it appears that the Mk l dial was in circulation from the introduction of the White 1680’s within the 3.8m serial range right through to the final run of the White 1680’s with 6.1m serial numbers.

The first Mk ll in the list starts at 5.0m and these dials were also used right up to the end of production at 6.1m.

The first Mk lll is seen from 5.2m onwards, with all three dials then all in use until the end of 1680 production around the 6.1m serial range.

The list below does support previous threads and thinking in that, unlike the 1680 Reds, all three of the White dial versions were in use at the same time. It does however clarify that the Mk1 was used initially, then the Mk ll from 5.0m and all three Mk dials from serial numbers 5.2m onwards.

Of course 146 watches is quite a small sample but having reviewed serial numbers over quite a while, the sample does show consistency and some serial number ranges which have a high concentration of use of a particular Mk e.g 5.2 serial White’s very largely but not exclusively feature Mk ll dials

Anyone who wants to add to the list by posting a partial serial number and a photo of their dial, is more than welcome.

Thanks for putting all the info. together. Here's mine - dates to 1978 and with a service dial. I agree these are really cool timepieces!
