With all the Brand Battles going on.....
I am looking at adding either a Breguet or a Lange.
For those that own these which would you recommend and why? I know this is a very general and subjective question. |

Lange makes an objectively better watch but there's nothing wrong with Breguet either. Both are a great value used.
Just depends on your budget and how many complications you want. |

It's a war zone in this subforum. Both make fine watches, and I own neither, but prefer Lange by a fair margin.

I am over all the brand battle threads. All for one guy asking an opinion between two he has narrowed down....but creating arbitrary polls....nah.....
But, for you OP - I would say both have significant value and pros. But, if I was to vote with my money I would go with Lange. The finishing is amazing and I love their movement finishing. |

I own a Breguet Tradition 7027 - to me this is a work of art. Every time I wear it I am just in awe. Really embodies the fun in horology to me.
That being said I paid less than half of original retail so it presented a real value proposition. The Lange finishing wise is definitely a step above the Breguet and the German design cues are out of the box compared to the Swiss counterparts. You get more watch feature/complication wise for your money with a second hand Breguet than a Lange. Just really a matter of preference. Any specific model you're considering or sparking your interest?

I have owned a few of both
Right now I still have a Lange perpetual datograph. I think the movement is spectacular. I think the Lange 1 is nicer than the tradition. If you match piece by piece, I think Lange. But.. I still think the tradition and marine lines are great.

I have a Tradition 7097, and it is my favorite watch. I own 4 Breguets, and 0 Lange. As someone posted above, the Tradition IMO is an amazing work of art, and I prefer its look over the Lange 1. The ALS Datograph is on my wishlist, however, as the display back is stunning. I do not believe you can go wrong with either, and which direction you choose is likely more due to personal stylistic preferences than anything else.

I assume you are not talking about a sports watch. Breguet makes a nice Marine sports model but other than that-- I personally would select Lange. I have 3 Lange pieces and really love them. I think they are highly underrated in many ways.

I love and greatly respect both brands a lot. Breguet is my wife's favorite brand due to aesthetics and I do think that Breguet makes the nicest women's watches in terms of design. Lange is my personal favorite brand due to the quality. Both brands can be had for bargain prices for the quality new with a discount or used. I will say that Lange's finishing is several notches above Breguet but I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either brand. I would go for whichever one speaks to you more.

There is no right or wrong answer here. For what it may be worth to you, I will share my story that touches on these brands. For my last purchase, I wanted a dressy watch. I narrowed the contenders down to the 18K JLC master ultra thin date and the Breguet classique 5177. Then, at the eleventh hour, a current-production Lange 1 came up for sale at a price that was for me just maybe doable (read: shy of financially reckless). The price on the Lange was objectively good, but it was also 80% more than the budget I had set for the purchase of a dressy watch. In the end, I went with the Lange. I stand by that decision; almost a year into owning it, my Lange 1 still amazes me every time I look at it.

Save for the Marine line, I’ve not been able to connect to Breguet.
Save for the Odysseus line, love or like nearly all Lange timepieces.

I would research the models desired and see where you stand on purchases and availability. Another factor for me is always the service and cost and time associated with that. In the end I would research the resale market and take all the information and decide what I want and what makes the best purchase. I admire both brands but will not own either due to cost of ownership.

I think it’s a very personal question. Try before you buy, look around on the brands websites. See what appeals to you, go to a boutique and see how feel about them in person. Both great brands that have high quality watches.

Thanks so far. Pretty much what I suspected. The problem is too many watches and not enough wrists.
Right now I have a couple Tudors, a Grand Seikos, Tag Monaco, Rolex CHNR, Air King, Cellini Moonphase and Anniversary Sub. So I am leaning away from the sport mode. I have been looking at the different watches in the Lange 1 and Breguet Classique lines. Half of this is the fun of looking. Stay tuned |

Both brands are of very high quality, so I think your choice will boil down to esthetic preference. Especially in the more dress category. The Breguet hands and dial approach are iconic vs Lange being basically the current flagbearer for German watch design. Can’t go wrong with either. Based on your current collection, I would guess that Lange would be more akin to your existing watches in esthetic, while Breguet would be thinking a little outside the box. Best wishes!

I feel happy everytime I look down at a Breguet on my wrist. Lange doesn't do that for me, but the watches are quite nice. I would try on several of each and note well how you feel. The one that lifts your spirits is the right answer, I would say.

Both are beautiful brands but I prefer Lange due to the detailing and finishing.
