The “fat boy” Submariner 116610LN has found it’s Cult Fanbase already-Prices Climb
Damn cool watch and I have to say the Fat Lugs that were polarizing at one time seem to be fading. I’m watching prices as I’m trying to buy one and they are climbing. I guess all things Rolex just go up!

First generation ceramic Submariner has to carry some cache I’d imagine.

I don't think there'll be a fat case frenzy when the new one is available.

Not quite. The New LV Cermit is a sub with green bezel. The 1st gen LV 'Kermit' 50th had the maxi-dial to differentiate from a regular sub. The 2nd gen LV 'Hulk' had the green dial making it unique compared to other subs. Hulk demand going nowhere but UP

If prices have gone up, the only reason is because that reference is discontinued/updated.

I think quite as all variations are aplenty. There are hundreds of thousands of each. But now you can’t buy the replacements without years of waiting and a premium. Therefore all variations will be hard to get and collected, hoarded, and prices rising. The discontinued models will dry up as the supply has ended leading to further price increases. Demand then rises further. Cycle continues.

Tudor got the “big block”, Rolex should also have it in the sub

These are being listed at $15,000 and thereabouts. It’s very intriguing. I bet AD’s may get these in occasionally as Rolex does with discontinued pieces.

I have never understood the controversy? The big lugs gave the watch case a great wrist presence IMO...I was after some other models first but glad I decided To take the plunge on a 116613Lb in July...fast becoming my go to watch...

Considering the new sub is 0.3mm wider at the lugs (because the bracelet is 1mm wider), we are literally splitting hairs on where the line is drawn, at the lugs, when viewed from above.
Bonkers really, especially when the new one is fatter, To be honest the new one is like when women put contour on their face. It’s all an illusion. |
