Time to add a Reverso?

Have a pretty solid collection coming along with mostly sporty pieces with black dials. Regular rotation includes IWC big pilot, dark side of the moon, aqua terra, and so on. All pretty sporty.

My question is is it time to get a dress watch and can anything beat the Reverso as a go to for work and formal events? My office opened back up so I’m back to long sleeve and a tie most days.

Some of the Reverso models are definitely in the ‘dress watch’ category.

In this category, some of the heavy weights are PP Calatrava, VC Patrimony, ALS, Breguet, JLC etc.

Not sure if a dress watch is what you want for the everyday grind. Reverso will do a good job though.

For the dress watch category, it really depends on your price range. For some, nothing beats a Nomos for a certain price point, where others can easily move into a great ALS Saxonia. Give us an idea what you're looking at and what you need in a dress watch and we would be more than happy to recommend how to clean out the wallet

I like the Reverso and have tried to make it work a couple of times at the AD but in the end it is a one trick pony. That one trick is cool but I found other models from JLC to actually appeal more to me. If I was to buy one, I would look to the secondary market as these watches, even with a nice discount, get crushed in the sale or trade market when they are pre-owned.

I enjoy my Reverso Duo very much. Get a big discount from an AD.

Nice collection OP and the Reverso is a great choice for those moments when a sports timepiece may be a bit too informal. My Muse / wife also likes Reverso timepieces.

I'm in a similar predicament, looking for a solid dress watch option rather than wearing my steel/titanium watches to work (see thread https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=770953)

On adding a Reverso, I'd say I'd caution against it. My 1st ever watch was a Reverso Grand Calendar (w/Moonphase), it wore so big on the wrist and the shape really looks massive on just abt any wrist. I have since then tried smaller ones but they just look too small, just can't put my finger on it on the best sizing. And they are pretty thick, doesn't look so elegant when it wears like that and doesnt contour to your wrist. And the final straw, I got 35% off retail but even when I resold, I lost a further 30% on top of that.

That was around 6 yrs ago, since then I've gone into the JLC AD and tried on many other Reversos, theyre either too thick (with 2 watchfaces) or the 1 watchface Tributes are thin enough but just have 1 dial and a closed caseback on the other side

The lugs on the latest Reverso case revisions (~2017+) have a slight wrist contour that makes a difference. I just picked up a Classic Large Duoface, I don’t wear it very much but it is definitely an enjoyable piece. The new tanned leather straps add some dress down versatility.
