Can someone explain why there are no rubber straps for 116509 WG Daytonas?

Hello everyone. Hope you are all safe and well.

I have been on the lookout for a rubber strap for my WG Daytona (116509). However, everywhere I look, they specifically disclaim that their straps will not fit Daytonas that originally came with WG bracelets.

I would appreciate it if anyone can shed a light on this issue, or even better, recommend a rubber strap that would fit!

Thanks all!

That’s strange, as what matters is the lug holes location and the shape of the case at the lugs, not the metal. Lee (@HogwldFLTR) had fitted rubber bands on his Platona and his TT Daytona, perhaps he can coment on his experience.

Having the same issue with everose, rubber b told me to get one that doesn’t have the fitted ends and it would fit. They said it’s because of the shape of the case + spring bar location (WG+RG+PT are the same).

I’ll be checking back here if you find anything, and I’ll update if I do.

What baffles me most is why are they not making WG/RG/PT compatible ones. Surely there’s a demand for it?

What’s there to sue? They’re already making rubber straps for just about every other Rolex model

Must be because the RG/WG/PT Daytona cases (symetrical lugs) are different from the SS/YG Daytona cases (asymetrical lugs)

Are they? In fact they offer the Oysterflex on a very limited range of models. All in precious metal. Rolex seem keen to use this strap to sell more gold watches. Not to offer an alternative for steel watches.
That may change, but for now....

So would Rolex sell me an OF strap for my 116509 then? I would assume the only difference between a 116509 and 116519 is the bracelet / strap. The lugs, fitment etc, should be the same?

the 116519 actually has endlinks that are specifically for the oysterflex strap which is why you can't put a bracelet on that model. i assume that's why they don't offer oysterflex as an option on the bracelet models

So I've been doing some further googling and I do wonder, by stating its "not compatible", do they just mean that there will be gap between the watch head and the strap?

If that's the case, then that's not a big issue is it? There are sites which sell end links to cover the gap.

If the straps fit securely, even if there's a gap, its really just an issue of aesthetics, no?

They told me when I emailed about this issue that it actually just won’t fit at all. Not because of the shape but because of the location of the springbar holes. I don’t think it’ll work unfortunately.

Best bet for us seems to be a straight ended 20mm strap. I’m probably just going to source an extra oysterflex since I can probably get it from an AD for my YM. I’m ok with not having the end links, but I don’t really have a solution for that (unless you’re ok with SS endlinks on WG).

Suggest to buy aftermarket Oysterflex band to see how it looks on your watch before spending over $600-700 for a set

Guys! Good news, so RubberB has been very helpful and gave me a good alternative for the 116509. Kindly see below as copy and pasted:-

Please read all the information below and click on the blue link for your only option s for the Rolex Daytona all white gold ( available in white ).

YOUR ONLY OPTIONS (available in white and other colors) :

Some customers have purchased the Rubber B SwimSkin Series for Oysterflex which is developed specially for the Rolex Models available with the oysterflex bracelet to use with their other Rolex references on oyster bracelet:

At the present time, we do not have an integrated (model which hugs the case and lugs) SwimSkin for your watch but if you would like to use the one we introduced for the Daytona or Yachtmaster on Oysterflex, you may if you wish to do so, but please do understand that there will be a slight gap between the case and the strap see the customer photo below, Daytona (stainless steel on bottom right.would be more or less the same with the GMT models or all white gold Daytona models

Or click on the link below to see all the options :

https://rubberb.com/en/rolex-watch-band-products/daytona-on-oysterflex-band” (Please click on the blue link)

If you wish to proceed please indicate the size you would need ( please see below the size chart you can use ) when making your purchase.

Thank you for your interest in Rubber B, and have a nice day.

On the Rolex website, try opening a 116508 and a 116505 in two different tabs in your browser, and switch from on to the other. You'll see how the two cases differ ;)

I'm being made to feel old-(I'm new to the forum). That said, I have a 116509 (blue). It is hard for me to wrap my head around the desirability of replacing my solid WG bracelet on a ~$40K watch with rubber... Yes, I feel old, or "out of it" or both. Regardless, this is why there are many different flavors of ice cream, I suppose.

Yes, I had the same notion as you before, but due to my place of work, I found that rubber straps are more comfortable. I live in Malaysia and visit a lot of construction sites, so you can imagine how hot and sweaty it can get for me.
