Icon10 Noob question, Hesalite replacement.

Hi all, so I’ve found myself venturing into the world of Omega and have a quick question for y’all.

Looking into the Speedmaster watches, I’m having a hard time deciding on the hesalite and sapphire crystal version. I enjoy the case back display on one, but prefer the look of the dial on the hesalite version.

My question to you is: can you purchase a sapphire version and replace the front crystal with hesalite? I don’t know if these are interchangeable. Anyone else tried it?

Thanks

Pretty sure you can’t do that, although I think there was a version available years ago with a hesalite crystal and sapphire back.

You’ve got to ask yourself two questions:

How often will I look at the back?

How often will I look at the front?

It would make more sense to get the one you want, then put on a different case back.

Generally, the more flexible plastic crystals are part of the sealing system, and the rigid sapphire needs a different seal system. You would be potentially compromising it's integrity with a crystal change.

I think you might find it easier to swap out the case backs rather than the fronts. I bet the threads are the same on both cases.

The reference 3572.50 had a hesalite crystal and a sapphire case back. The few websites at looked at all seemed to have at least one of them available.

Someone on Omegaforums bought a hesalite and switched to a display case back. Only thing you don’t get is the decorated movement if you do this.
