5524 Tiffany worth the premium?

I’ve decided that a preowned 5524R will be my first Patek. Now I’m considering if I should pay a premium to get a Tiffany stamped example. I know a Tiffany stamp generally holds value better and sometimes appreciate. Question is… is it worth it on a 5524? Thoughts?

I pay less for a kindle that displays adverts, should be the same for a watch. Especially a shop like Tiffany, that has gone solidly mid market.

You guessed it, am not a fan of the tramp stamp.

IMO paying more for a Tiffany dial purely for investment potential isn’t wise as there’s no guarantee that a Tiffany stamp will carry the same cachet 5/10/15 years from now. Personally I don’t like these dials at all.

Yes, particularly on a 5524. I get that a lot of the purists on this site do not want the Tiffany stamp on their watches but, in the larger world, there are quite a few buyers who do. A few years ago a Tiffany 5167a would sell for twice MSRP, now it's closer to 5X.

5524R with Tiffany stamp on the dial is not the same as a 1518 with Asprey on the dial. or a 3700 with Beyer on the dial, or 1463 signed by Gobbi

those watches were made famous by auction houses in recent years

Up until a few years ago, a Retailer stamp was worth about 10-20% more.

I pay to see two words on the dial…PATEK PHILIPPE and could care less about T&Co stamps. If you live in NY or that is your AD or have some special connection to the company than go for it but I would never pay a premium. This 5524R at an AD should be discounted so save a few bucks in buying from a local AD and get your name on the papers and build a relationship to work towards some other sought after pieces in the future.

I guess it’s personal preference - I prefer PP without a Tiffany stamp . I don’t have any loyalty to the jewelry store, nor am I enamored by it . So i would rather my watch just be stamped with who made it. With that said, If you are asking because you are looking at this as a financial asset, then I would just do some research on auction sites . But like others have said , what’s true today isn’t guaranteed 5-10 years from now.

Tiffany is not the same class as Patek and I would not want to see the stamp on my watches, especially if I have to pay more.

I prefer them, but only because I have a strong affinity for the Tiffany brand.

I did a poll awhile ago on whether people actually like the Tiffany stamp. Most said no.

It’s been mystified into this “rarity and investment” thing, but very few actually like it. I would think it’s going to go away long term as Tiffany continues to go mid market branding and people don’t actually like it. May even become harder to sell a Patek with the stamp than without. Personally I would not want it on mine

Tiffany would have you think it always means something.

Outside of something vintage or a modern 5711 sparked by the current social media experience I wouldn’t count on it adding value.

Imho The 5524 is a great looking watch but it seems it is not appreciated that way by most?

I think of the 5524 as a great daily wear/travel watch, super legible & Super practical.
I would want to find it preowned with the best possible price I could find and then wear the snot out of it.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Exactly this! It may mean something on a handful of watches across a few brands, but in this example, I’d say definitely not worth it. Good advice from Gus…find the best one you can….wear and enjoy!
