10% a year, I didn’t do any research but I bought a Submariner in 1986 and the sales person said that.

Haha...what a silly ass comment. Nothing more than a base diatribe on the obvious critical nature of your own guess work. I guess some people just have to position themselves as wanting to be clever. Well, good luck to you sir. so:

What do you think? Well I think that I don't know and I might see what forum members think and take it from there...
What research have you done? Research into what? Into prices? Desirability? Probably no more or less than others and I come to the conclusion that prices are high but will most likely stabilise, but worth asking what others think in a free forum....
Why are you asking? Asking because it interests me and by the responses others do have opinions.
Why the next 18 months? not too close and not too far away - purely arbitary - choose your own ending my friend.
What is “classic?” Good question. I don't know, it's quite connotative - what do you think?
Do to own one, have you always wanted one, what do you enjoy abo - Yes, I own two GMT's a coke and a pepsi bought 10 years ago and 7 years ago respectively. Thinking of a third over the past few years, but might have missed the boat now.
Anyway, your turn.

Yep, and that's what makes it fun to be in a forum like this where, aside from a small few, freedom to be sill ass as allowable.

Haha.. I like your comment.

Sorry if I haven't picked up on your sarcasm correctly or you find the concept of money and watches in the same sentence offensive...but that's the real world as it is. I don't say I like it, but in a vernacular you might be looking for:

Watches are safe.

waning or waxing moon?

Never heard of a "no worry purchase" and I certainly didn't say that.

The five digit models with late serial numbers would personally be my preference for those kind of models. Simply because I think they had the best features (other than some specific 4 digit models that have become unobtanium). Maybe I’m not the only one who thinks that so prices may go up. Or not. I personally also buy objects like that to own and enjoy and wear them not to flip and trade or turn into cash.

I read a post by Fabrice arguing that the rectangular dial was less common than the stick dial.

Fabrice M:

here is a timeline I have found here and there, I know it isn't completely accurate as I have seen M36xxxx with rectangle dials, but it does make the point that the rectangle one seem to be less common:

Z77XXXX - 3185 Rectangular II
Z96XXXX - 3186 Stick II
Z6XXXXX - 3185 Stick II
M23XXXX - 3186 Stick II
M23XXXX - 3186 Rectangular II
M30XXXX - 3186 Stick II
M30XXXX - 3186 Stick II
M36XXXX - 3186 Stick II
MXXXXXX - 3186 Stick II

It’s the single most versatile watch perhaps ever made. That said, there are very likely more made than the 16610 sub and they are not rare. But in today’s market who knows perhaps 100k if enough insta-celebs and folks hyping investment that’s the watch to own.

Based on my experience, I would expect a minimum of 20% appreciation in the next 18 months. Pictured below: GMT II 16710, new-in-the-box, fully stickered, unworn (often referred to as NOS).

I honestly don’t care if it goes up or not, it won’t change how much I enjoy the watch!

Please tell us why this offends you so much. A watch is an object, like a car or a toaster or a spoon. Some people value things and money isn’t and shouldn’t be considered and some people look at things as a cash value. Who cares if other don’t share your reverence for the brand? In order to participate on this forum do we have to prove that we love Rolex so much that to talk about it in terms of dollar value is sacrilege?

Who knows? For mine it’s mostly retirement into the vault.

Mine have all been used as daily’s in the past and shared interesting times with me throughout my life. They’ve now all been serviced at RSC and all retired into the safe ever since, except for the Pepsi which is still worn infrequently.

The ceramic LN is now my daily.

If you really want it for what it is then what does it matter?

My D Serial 16710 (2005-2006) is an excellent fit on my wrist and was serviced by RSC in 2016. I can truly only afford one luxury wristwatch that stays on my wrist 24/7.

For now, without any concern for “investment” potential I continue to daily wear the Pepsi. I don’t want it’s price to tank necessarily of course but I don’t expect it to go up much more than it has over the past several years.

Nothing to add to this thread other than that is a beautiful watch and a great pic (and shows history). Great purchase and wear in good health…every day.

Exactly. No worry purchase and to the .

I personally enjoy the 16710 so much more than their 6-digit successors , one wasn’t enough. Didn’t want to be bothered swapping out inserts many times per week so I picked up a Y serial to go along w/ my M serial before prices went all NASA .

Did need to sell my 116710 LN 2 months before it retired (March 2019 if I recall) to fund the Y serial purchase. Terrible timing as the 116710 pretty much 2x in a week. Oh well, I didn’t care as it wasn’t being worn.

Watches (like many things) are meant to be enjoyed. Any monetary appreciation is an extra helping of dessert.

Don’t let the negatives responses get you down Oz.

Some are just cut and paste.

You question is important to more members than you think and certainly better than some threads that ARE meaningless and go on and on with no purpose and no ending in sight.

I have the 2007 16710 ‘M’ model you refer to and have no doubt about it’s popularity in the future.
