I heard similar from my AD. they didn't all get used for returns but they used to circulate and be reused - somewhat.

I'm sure Rolex did what any other responsible organisation would do. Assess the environmental impact of continuing to use plastic containers, some of which were reused, versus alternatives. There was probably a cost component looming large as well. I'm sure the cardboard containers will be recycled also, as opposed to some of them being reused.

Anyone see one yet? I'm wondering if they're completely opaque, to prevent any selling of factory-sealed units?

Also wondering if Rolex has changed how it ships watches and if different packaging makes more sense now?

Do you think Rolex did this for any reason other than to save money?

Only because I assume they'd have shifted to this years ago if that were the primary consideration.

Or else, what if...

It's a disruption to the supply of the plastic "coffins" that's actually responsible for the watch shortage and it only now occurred to someone in Geneva that there are alternatives, at which point the floodgates open and it's watches galore once again?!?!?!?!?!

Unknown. I would be surprised if money didn't come into it.

My AD didn't allow photos. But is was a flimsy white non labeled cardboard box, folded on the edges, with a black ink stamp of letters and numbers on one end. It's open in the middle to show the watch. Otherwise, it's not a recognizable Rolex issued box.
