114060 grey market

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a preowned 114060 sub from grey market dealer. The full set watch is in excellent condition, however, its polished. Interested to hear people's opinion on this model and movement. Price is around gbp7,000. Would this be a good deal?

Everyone enjoys each model for a different reason, and in my opinion from general forum searching it’s mainly aesthetics causing split opinions and deciding what to buy. I haven’t read a single thread saying “I purely bought this watch because ONLY the movement” but I have seen so many saying they bought the watch because updated looks or beefier stature or smaller profile. Almost always comes down to looks. Just depends on each persons opinion and naked eye.

Do YOU like it? Have you shopped other sub like 16610 or 14060? Many good options out there. Enjoy the hunt, it’s almost more fun than owning the watch.

That sounds a very low price.
They’re normally starting at least a grand more than that, so the price alone would be a red flag for me.

1. we need photos to decide if it's a good deal
2. is the seller trustworthy?
3. 7000gbp is a below average price for an Excellent condition no date sub, be careful

Sounds cheap.
Also if shipping from Malaysia you will have at least 20% on top of that.
The 114060 is a great model-I have one.

It's your call, however, buying a used watch from a grey 1000's of miles away would not be an avenue I'd choose. I would spend a little more and use a trusted local supplier.

I just couldn’t order a watch from Malaysia if I was in UK to save a few £££

The location and the price are red flags to me. Don't do it. Too may chances for problems and the seller is too far away for easy fixes. Find this watch from a Trusted Source in the UK and pay a little more but have it right. Don't let the money get you going in the wrong direction, as it has.

It would depend entirely on who the dealer is IMO

Very good advice here. Buy the seller first. Trusted TRF sellers are a good option too.

You know there’s multiple Rolex AD’s in Malaysia and even a few reputable grey spots? If the price is right I’d see zero qualms, and OP is there right now so no import tax if he gets it back without issue.

OP, I live in Malaysia and from what I observe the Rolex market is as hot as the rest of the world so the price you're offered seemed really good, almost too good, but then I don't know the current condition and year of the watch.

At one of my go-to trusted local dealer in Kuala Lumpur, there is one 114060 2020 year/preowned up for sale for MYR53,000 = GBP9,250.

If you're confident that the dealer is legit then congrats I think you got a good deal. Feel free to PM me the dealer, maybe I've bought from them before. I shopped around the grey dealers in Kuala Lumpur for quite a bit.

Where you seeing Greys charging 13.5 for 114060’s???? Mint ones are being sold by greys for 11.5, and I’ve seen them sell private numerous times in the 10’s.

Blah. Sorry. You're right. I messed up my refs.

Thanks for calling that out. Edited.

There are red flags. Apart from the unusually low price, is why would an 114060, a watch barely 9 years old tops, have to be polished? Many reasons why that would be and most are not good. Unless it’s an older model and was polished during service.

No way you are buying a pukka 114060 at that price. I was offered £8650 by a reseller I met form mine in the U.K but I don’t buy watches to sell. That price raises so many red flags

If it was serviced by Rolex, it was probably polished. And you're supposed to service these things every 10 years, right? And many dealers will service a watch before selling. And if not, most dealers will polish a watch before selling, just because it looks better and will sell easier and for more money.

If it was worn every day by someone for 9 years, then yes, I'd expect it to need a polish.

No flags there.

My only concern would be that it was not a real watch with a genuine movement. Asia is the world central for fakes, is it not?

I have one and will not sell for any price below $10k. The price seems too good to be true, IMO.

And the world central for luxury goods buying. What’s your point?
