Help with 1601
I bought this 1601 yesterday at auction £2500, (approx $3500). Serial no:250xxxx dating it to 1968 i think. My question is, is the second hand, should it be gold or is silver correct? Do you see anything else wrong?TIA

I think you got a good price on that. Looks like it included a bracelet too? A correct hand shouldn’t be hard to find. A good indie watchmaker should be able to source you one when you service it.

Looks great!
Does 1968 make this a galvanized/gilt dial? (I only have one gilt, and it’s earlier - idk their dates.) |

If we are talking about correctness, I think that the crown should be gold-color and the bracelet should be TT. However, it's more important that you're happy with the watch, so you're not required to worry about these details.

Watch arrived today as you can see from the pic all hands are silver so no need to find a replacement.

Can you post a sharper pic of just the dial?
Are all three hands, and the markers & coronet on the dial, all white/silver colored? What color is the text above the dial? I guess it could just be odd reflections in the original photo … |

Wow, I was totally fooled by the original photo. Maybe the seller applied a filter.

Well, that's what I asked, and you said the dial furniture was silver. Anyway, hands and dial furniture (markers and coronet) should match. So if you want to make it correct, you need a new hand-set, new crown, and TT bracelet. On the other hand, if you like the watch as it is, just enjoy it.

Absolutely, enjoy it as it is. You can always change it later if you choose.

It was very common for Rolex dealers to offer replacement dials, hands, bezels etc to people who owned these four-digit watches and might want a new look. So many of them have had these changes, and they are great watches. In my opinion, original condition isn’t as important as whether those of us who own these enjoy the way they ended up.
I think you have a beauty there, and for sure you got a bargain. |

A true bargain. A T/T Jubilee would really set off, that they are available but wait for one at the right price.
