Glad it's suede, from some small dodgy pics I was looking at, I half thought it was carpet.

I think 5172 wil take some time to find it's feet. The 5170 also peak with the platinum version so I expect 5172 will take the same route.
These manual winding chronograph might be deemed a flop just because resale value doesn't holds up compare to say... Nautilus, but they are true beauties in their own right. After owning the 5170P for a week, I have to conclude that this is the hands down the most beautiful watch in my entire collection.

In this day and age the 5170P is an opportunity for men to wear platinum and diamonds and still look contemporary.

Question - if the 5172 is released in a blue dial white gold configuration as the first iteration of this model, will the crowning glory of the 5172 series be a salmon dial platinum? It's will be a black dial platinum otherwise. I'm hoping another salmon.

nice as some of the recent PP releases. but nice is not good enough for long term collectibility.

It’s hard for me to see a comeback for dress watches, this world is increasingly turning more casual, I don’t see a future for 5172 in terms of value.

tough times for non sport watches......I opted for the 5170 over the 5172. My guess would be 5172 is discontinued soon, it will be interesting to see if Patek tries more "bridge" pieces trying to find a balance between sport and dress. My preference is dress look traditional and sport look sporty...I'm not a crossover fan.

I haven't even gotten a ballpark date from my AD, which is pretty unusual. My guess is we don't see them until 2020.

It has been 3 years since launch. Has the 5172G been a success? It seems more readily available than other models. The secondary market price has remained about the same as new. Thoughts?

The 5172G is an absolutely wonderful watch, the secondary be damned. You can wear it with literally anything, very comfortable, and stunning in person. The 5170P is still a knock-out, but it's a dress watch and I believe the 72 to be in a category of its own between sports and dress if you're planning on wearing it and not treat it as an investment.

Wow! Such diverse views. I bought the 5320G and couldn’t resist its bedmate, the 5172G. They are a great pairing and I ignore all this dress watch malarkey and wear them day and day about the whole time. The 5320G is a serious grand complication a long PP history and yet it looks so plain and simple. The lugs and the hands are my favourite PP design and the data/information is clear and simply presented. It’s partner, under discussion, is similarly enhanced by the lugs and syringe hands. It is slightly larger than on the wrist but not to notice really.. It has the PP designed and manufactured chronometer (used in 2 previous models) in unlike the earlier Chronos which were not made in house.
It is of course hand wound which is an added bonus when left on the side over holidays as it doesn’t require complex resetting. It is the watch for those who love pp mechanics and the pairing with the 5172G. There are of course many cheaper chronos if price is your thing. (There’s a new £7k Omega Chrono just out). As for the future price concerns - best to buy a global ETF if you want a decent investment - try Vanguard? I can’t see the price being reduced as they just have to reduce the already small production level, to sell them out. Selling at reduced prices would be a bad look for the brand. If you love it, buy it to wear and s@d the price! https://www.watchprosite.com/patek-p...8166.12810931/ https://revolutionwatch.com/complete...-chronographs/ https://www.watchprosite.com/?search...qf=ft&ft=5172g https://www.watchprozine.com/page-mz...-chronographs/ https://watchesbysjx.com/2012/05/und...e-century.html |
