Yes, it seems to be not the goal of Tudor to slightly underproduce but to meet demand and allow people to buy their products. Not a bad move and complimentary for the Rolex brand.

In 2020 Tudor produced around 230k watches, Rolex 810k but the audience for Tudor is still growing. So many people still have no idea what Tudor is.

Rolex wants to increase their average price per watch, hence the push to more PM variants….

Average selling price (estimated) slightly under 10k CHF for Tudor, slightly under 3k CHF….

Rolex SA has been seriously upping Tudor prices lately as well.

It really does seem a deliberate brand repositioning of both Rolex and Tudor.

Is the Tudor BB58 loosing its desirability.

Why does it matter whether someone else wants it affect your choices? It’s a beautiful watch. There are only so many people who want a thing. Many bought with hype and maybe now are selling them. It means you can buy a used BB58 for a discount! Much like when I bought my first Rolex sea dweller. I bought grey then for 30% off the retail price. Stupid social media hype is a new thing. Buy if you like. Enjoy the discount.

Thank you - I wanted that vintage Tudor look and the strap just seemed to work perfectly.

It’s from Bark and Jack - website below. As well as straps he puts out really good content on YouTube

https://barkandjack.com/products/bronze-broad-weave

This particular one is single pass so I sits lower on the wrist too and is super comfy.

Enjoy

All hype for all things must end at some point. Sure the BB58 hype is fading as the watch has been out for some time now. But, given the bang this watch entered with and maintained for well over a year I am sure, like all great things, in a matter of time the hype will come back. I just enjoy wearing the watch and studying the design. I also look forward to seeing how this watch ages.

Here is my take on things; I think it remains desirable but in a different way.

It is desirable in the same way an Omega Speedmaster Professional is desirable. By that I mean it is a well loved watch, if you are into watches it is one of those pieces that lots of people want to have. Tudor is never going to be like Rolex and that is part of its appeal

I think the BB58 will always be popular and desired, it just won’t be over-hyped and over priced

I think this is a good thing -- now there should be no excuse for anyone wanting this excellent watch to get it

How can it be both priced above retail but yet not fetching a premium over retail?

I still have my BB58 in blue, it's now my only watch.

As much as we all don't want to admit it, scarcity does impact the value of goods. By supply meeting demand you're not going to have a premium for resale or value retention, hence reducing the desirability.

Think of it now as what it was meant to be, a great watch to wear and beat around and will still hold most of its value if you need it. I can't see modern Tudors being anything other than that, ie investment.

Who cares about secondary market! It’s a great great watch. I wear it everyday now, all the others sit in their boxes.

My wife surprised me with this yesterday. I had been wanting this for a while. Couldn’t care less about the hype or lack there of. Sits so perfectly on the wrist and is the perfect complement to my collection. It’s supposed to be in the box until our 10th anniversary in a couple weeks but she’s out and didn’t wrap it yet.

Unlike Rolex that don’t introduce any new models to their line up, Tudor does experiment more.

Naturally this kind of release frequency softens the hype on older releases. But that doesn’t change the fact, that BB58 still sell well, they just don’t sell out.

People jumped on the silver and bronze hype train, the ceramic BB and the new Chronos. If there are so cool new releases to spread the hype across, naturally it will fizzle out for the previous hype models.

However, the BB58 is here to stay, still an amazing choice and I have a few collector friends still buying them or considering them at the moment.

I can’t shake the feeling that a watch trader stating that a specific watch has “lost its hype” might have something to do with reasons we know nothing about.

Just speculating here, but this COULD potentially be a sneaky move to get people to contact them regarding selling their watch to them. It could also be seen as an argument for said watch trader to offer less for the watch in question as the “hype has died down”, leaving open the potential for higher earnings upon resale.

Again, I’m just speculating here. I’m in Denmark and the hype has in no way died down. It’s still not readily available from AD’s here.

I would say that BB58 is a great watch, but it is not the type of watch that should be difficult to get nor trade over retail, in my opinion Tudor is no better than Omega and the later is being sold new at a discount.

We should accept the fact that it was over hyped by the Youtube community and other social media platforms and unfortunately some fell in love with the hype and not the watch!
