Advice required. Second Patek Purchase.
Hi guys.
I wonder what advice you could all offer me. I'm currently looking at purchasing another Patek to go with my steel 5712 that I have held for some years. I'm a chunky fella who hardly ever wears a suit or smart attire of Amy description. Sub 40mm dial size does not suit me. Leaving the aquanaut range to one side, what would your suggestions be? I do have other watches that I rotate but this would be another keeper like the 5712. I'm particularly conscious that I will not be anywhere near the top of any AD wait list and that's even assuming I can get on one, but don't want to wait years to collect this purchase, my particular time clock is ticking. I would be happy to purchase pre owned provided I was convinced of the watch sources reliability and if the purchase didn't involve a huge premium over current list. What reference and in which dial/metal would best compliment a 5712/1a for a two watch Patek collection? Thanks in advance. |

As you hardly wear a suit, I reckon the new 5905/1A will be great for you. Size-wise, it is 42mm and should fits nicely on your wrist. It has AC and chrono complications and you can probably get it directly from an AD with a little wait.

I was at my local Patek AD last week looking to narrow down my list for my first Patek. One model I am looking at closely is Ref. 5524G. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and that watch had a nice wrist presence for a 42mm model. I also thought the watch had a great casual look to it. From what he was telling me it would take about 6 months wait to get that watch. Good luck with your search.

5524. Already have a nautilus and if you leave out aquanaut then this is the larger casual piece and you can easily get it from an AD or from member on this forum. Plus it is a fantastic and unrated piece with one of the best complications if that suits your needs. Good luck.

Completely agree with everyone on the 5524. Although, I would also consider a 5522 if those pushers are not attractive to you. Same size and more streamlined look.

I was going to suggest the same reference. The 5905 has great wrist presence and the ss version with the bracelet should only increase its substantial feeling. Great comps as well.

Have you ever tried AP? The 43mm Royal Oak Offshores (ref 26420xx) sound like they could fit your lifestyle/requirements.
Worth a look. Personally, I don't like the PP Calatrava (there is a reason they are easily attainable). If you do get one, they trade below retail in grey. Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk |

I would go for the 5172G, its 41mm but wears larger is not super dressy but dressier IMO than the 5712 and they would complement each other. I think you can get it with an AD or in the second hand market at list or a little under.

Was going to recommend the same. Both blue but who cares. If blue isn’t in the cards wait for the assumed R or J next.

Maybe the white 5960/1a, one white dial and one blue with the 5712.
The 5172g is a great suggestion as others have mentioned. But if you want new from a Patek AD, your chances are better for a 5524 or maybe a 5227 if it isn't too small. |

Apologies I just saw the grey price of the 5905/1A by a trusted seller, and it is almost 3 times the MSRP. This implies this model will be hard to get, but no harm trying from the AD though.

Thanks for all the advice folks, appreciated.
Ichiran, i like the sound of the 5905/1a but demand is likely to be crazy and I wouldn't pay the huge premium over list. 5524 and 5905p are possibilities though. Will that release (the 5905/1a) lead to an increase in the grey prices of the 5905P and R I wonder? |

In my view, the 5905P is a bit more formal (as many point out it is also thick) and I wear as my office watch with the alligator strap. It is super top heavy in P and I recently added an unfortunately very expensive deployant clasp because I was worried about dropping it when i put it on. I put a custom blue calf strap on the 5524 and wear that more casually (like now) on a Friday. I have big wrists and it is easy to wear. It is getting a lot of wrist time. I suggested the 5524 because I thought you were staying casual but the 5905P can be casual too, just not as much. |

My first choice would be the 5172, manual wound chrono is Patek DNA. And the watch looks awesome.
5905 would be my 2nd choice, great design with great size and cool complications 5524 would be a good addition but not on top of my list….I think I prefer the aquanaut travel time to the 5524z personal taste Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The 5172G actually wear large? I hope not as I have one on order based on feedback that it wears similar to the 5302G or a Daytona. |
