The Tudor 76200 is pretty close, with a Datejust mid-case.

Why?

The weight on this watch or any Rolex pm is what makes it the version.

A 1980 Tudor Oyster prince day-date in steel is out there with an oyster bracelet
Polish the middle and make it look current, and Just refinish the dial with the Rolex logo…

Great watch but difficult for us in North America to find. I've been hunting for a blue day-date model for months now but can't even find a lead.

Check Crown and Caliber website, they have some for sale from time to time. The 76214 (flutted) are a bit more expensive to purchase versus the 76200 because of the WG flutted bezel.

Rolex RSC has a big variety of dials available for them so if you cannot find one with the blue dial that can be swapped easily by RSC. Here the dials they had available last year:

For reference, a non diamond dial is about $325 plus $50 for the hands (RSC pricing, they will keep the old parts).

I recall reading that Rolex DID make a handful of SS Day Dates in the early 60's as service loaners while people were having their PM Day Dates serviced. I don't know if any still exist or are in private hands.

Here’s my 7017/0 Tudor Date+Day “Jumbo” 38mm next to a modern DJ36.

Sunburst dial on the DJ vs a vertical satin brushed dial on the DD (which is spectacular).

The DD bracelet is a very well done aftermarket President style with curved end links, so it very much feels the part of a stainless steel President.

I just spoke to my local RSC in Toronto and they said they only have 1 blue option. They said each market has limited options to swap out. The hunt continues...

[QUOTE=Jocke;11906972]I said the same but it ends with a WG Daydate for me that I have made one of a kind.

Thanks! I really enjoyed that photo session when transforming the DD

However, no fan of the Swe day-disc, despite being a Swede.

One thing is different today. Unlike the SkyD which was a reasonably slow seller and Rolex needed to recoup R&D costs which is why it’s on rubber and even jubilee. The Day-Date today doesn’t need to recoup costs and it sells out in every configuration just as much as the cheapest ss Rolex watch.
They can’t produce enough in PMs, they can’t produce enough Explorers or Submariners in ss, why would they do something like offer a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and in fact create another manufacturing issue for themselves.

I don’t think Rolex even has enough 904L for what it makes in steel. History usually dictated a Rolex direction and it still does but this one is more about logic and rational and with what they’re doing, the history remains intact.

I don’t see a stainless steel Day Date as long as the climate exists where you can’t even see a ss Rolex watch in the case in a size 36mm and up.
As you allude to, it seems the Sky-D was released in SS because at the time, they weren’t selling enough PM versions and wanted to (likely) amortize R&D and tooling over more units. Similarly, the WG GMT didn’t seem to be a big seller, so they introduced the BLRO in SS and it’s been sought after ever since.

1) I can’t imagine such a successful and long lasting PM-only line like the Day-Date suddenly being diluted with a SS version, when it’s completely unnecessary from a marketing standpoint.

2) I used to chuckle when so many TRFers used to say that they just didn’t like the bezel colors on the WG BLRO. It wasn’t the cost of PM, it was the bezel. Then as soon as they released it for 1/4 the price in SS (with the same bezel), there was a line down the block and it’s been hot ever since! Probably the same thing with the Sky-D, but I don’t really recall.

You need then to deal with the US Rolex Service Centers instead. You can ship them the watch from Canada and when done they would ship back to you (they charge you shipping as part of job). I dealt with RSC Dallas but you can also check RSC New York or the other USA centers
