Deposit for SS models
Will my deposit help me buy GMT Pepsi faster? I have been waiting for it for over a year. I know my AD accepts deposits for watches. As I ordered BB 59 6 months ago, I made a 25% deposit. Then the waiting time was supposed to be 4 months but I got it after 3 weeks. Should I propose a deposit by myself for GMT or should I wait for a call from my AD? Is offering 50% or paying full in advance for the watch a good idea?

Anything that you do at an AD will only affect how that AD perceives you.
It also depends on the SA who is helping you. Some are aggressive for their watch clients, and others would rather sell pearls to little old ladies.

No deposits or payments until the watch is ready for delivery for me. So much can go wrong and cause all kinds of issues. If you want the watch, buy the watch from a Trusted Seller and move on. The values are only going up, until they don't. And then you still have the watch you want. If the point is to get it at msrp and have the value there, then good luck. What have you done that would make the AD gift you 10k because that is what they would be doing. If you were a true VIP then you would already have the watch from them. Such a mess. I hope you get your watch as I am a owner and think it is great.

Seems like your dealer accepts deposits and it works. Seems like a reasonable approach.

Just got a call yesterday for the starbucks after 14 months of waiting. Paid 10% Deposit at the time and now I have to pay the difference of the new listing price. It works for me and I know what I will get. They told me 12 months max, but due to Covid it ended up 14 months. I have few more watches in line waiting for the call.

Deposits are just free loans. Your experience with the BB58 cannot be compared to a BLRO. Apples and oranges.

Sadly, not likely that your deposit will speed up the process. It could however, give you a “little bit” more assurance that eventually you’ll get one. That’s just a hypothetical on my part…
At the end of the day, it’ll depend on your SA, and how much they’re willing to go to war for you. |

They might have 50+ deposits for a "Pepsi" = free loan. Rolex only boutiques do not accept deposits. There was a post about a Gentleman paying for a Daytona in full and receiving the watch 4 years later.

My AD doesn’t take deposits. I’ve also been told a deposit wouldn’t help me get a watch any faster.

Ask your AD. All anyone else can do is speculate.
My AD doesn't take deposits from me. |

My AD has told me these pieces do not require deposits. They know that if you pass on it it'll take them half a second to get rid of it

I don't mind deposits if it guarantees you the watch. Omega took a dep for my 321 and snoopy, so far they delivered on the 321 and i'm not too far away from the snoopy. This is from the official boutique though so I know they're not going to go out of business anytime soon etc...

US Dealer. Delivery would be "The next one they got" but no timeframe could be given.... Hard pass from me and turned out to be a good call. 6months later that store lost Rolex... No dealer need your deposit on a watch they can sell 10times within an hour. Like someone said its a free loan for them from schmucks that believe they will get "TheCall" quicker that way. You get nothing unless they want to sell you that watch. And if they do the deposit will not matter The above is for modelst that have yearlong "lists" A YMII Pearlmaster or Ladies watch different story. DJ seem to be on the fenceline now if its a hero or still a zero |

You generally need strong purchase history to be in with a shout of a Pepsi, and they’ll prioritise biggest spenders most likely. Do you have decent spend history? |

Ask yourself this question, if your AD asks for a 25%-50% deposit and says "you'll get the next one we receive" and then you hear nothing for 1-5 years, how happy will you be?
A deposit for something to be ordered usually shows the seller than you're prepared to complete the purchase once the item arrives. In the event you pull out of the deal once the ordered item lands, the Dealer keeps the deposit in order to compensate them for having to now stock the item you ordered (tying up money and display space) until they can find another buyer or pay to cover a "restocking fee" should they want to return it to the distributer. So, with that being said Why would a Rolex need a deposit for something: A- They cant order (they get what theyre given) B- There is no shortage of potential buyers should you change you mind C- The odds of you refusing to purchase the model once offered is ZERO given the current market (even if you hate it, you'd just go sell it to a dealer for a tidy profit) All you'd be doing is giving them a loan for the amount of time it takes you to get annoyed and ask for a refund. You'd be better off taking the money you were going to offer as a deposit and use it to buy something in store |

My AD doesn't take deposits. Ask them how many they already have, I bet dozens.. if you're ok with waiting for 2-3 years than do it.

Not a fan unless there’s a specific delivery date given. I’ve only done it once (prepaid in full) and my AD delivered it in 2 days.

I was willing to pay more than 50% deposit on two watches with my dealer. They said it was not necessary and could be complicated. If I kept the money with them too long, my SA said that at some point it could no longer be refunded and I could not get it back even if I never got the watch.
But the store manager said I am in their good list and I will get the watches sooner than later.

I don't mind putting down a deposit on a watch they actually order for me. But a deposit on an allocated watch doesn't really mean anything except possibly, maybe, they move you up in the line a little bit.

Have not found an AD that takes deposits as of late. If it meant i would get the watch I want within a year absolutely would do it. At this point I have been trying to buy a Rolex for the last year with zero success.

You can make your deposit, I believe it will help your AD know how serious you are in making the purchase if that's his own way though, but I believe that shows some level of seriousness
