The 16700 never came with a black/red insert. To put one on would be incorrect, even if the insert is authentic.

Thank you Larry! That’s what I always thought until a thread a couple weeks ago talking about this very thing and analyzing the “style #” on my warranty paper. I Would love your thoughts on this: Based on the following catalog snapshot, apparently the 16700 could’ve come new with an “all black“ bezel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Here is how it is..
The GMT Master with a build code of "A" is a red/blue insert - this was the original color. In ~1972 an "N" if it was black. A 16700 never came with a "B" insert code. The GMT II original and only insert for a while was black/red. This original color for the GMT II 16760 insert was code "A" too. (as in its first iteration) The later added blue/red insert that came on the 16710 was coded "B" (second iteration), so the 16710 could have either an A or a B insert, a 16700 cannot. So, a 16750 or 16700 GMT Master has a different insert designator than the 16760 or 16710 GMT II. On your attached image for a 16700, the style code of "A" indicates the original iteration red/blue insert while the "B9315" that follows indicates the Bracelet is the optional 93150 extension model. The "coke" comment is confusing the GMT Master insert build code with the later GMT II insert build codes; they are different.
