Which OP dials discontinued and added 2022

Some fun speculation on what the lineup will be like in a couple of months.

My guess is they add white, rhodium, or olive dial and remove silver dial. Maybe add pink in 41mm size.

My thinking is they want to add more stable colors to the lineup.

The silver dial is the only unique dial in the lineup with its yellow appliqué and pips. They might want to simplify production by not making those unique items just for 1 reference.

And I think they want to capture some of the turquoise magic at 41mm by adding pink to the 41mm sizing.

I’d be a buyer of an olive dial OP41 with orange accents like the previous generation OP34. Loved that design but size was too small for me. Olive is also hot with the daydate these days.

It seems like an easy lineup to add and remove colors from so I suspect they will.

Last year was the introduction of their new laser etching dial technology. I suspect they invested a lot in that technology and process and will want to utilize it wherever they can. So I could easily see laser etched OP references.

The palm fronds could look pretty classy on an OP.

What texture or design do you think would look good on an OP or what do you think they will come up with?

Think we might even see something left field like colored crystals? I could easily see any of these happening.

Maybe even allowing jubilee bracelet options since they’re already made for the case with the DJ. They did it for the GMT and Skydweller so why not OP?

One lady at an AD near me had a blue 36 pre ordered. Rolex came back and said she had to change to either black or silver. Could be a sign of things to come, who knows.

They’ve only been out a little over a year and demand is super high. I see no reason for any changes this year.

I could see them making all the stella dials colors from the past over a period of time.

Dark brown, purple, mint green, purple, electric blue .... how awesome would that be ?!

They have a lot of room to play with and no need to hurry.

No change at all, Rolex themselves are for sure getting sick and tired about all the speculators and discontinue hype nonsense.
If they want to accommodate this nuisance they for sure did not reintro the batman, Pepsi on oyster or ADD a blue Sky reference on jubilee instead of killing it.
So for the OP they will maybe do the same, make it on jubilee available as well.

The previous OP lineup was 2015 and then updated in 2018 then again in 2020. So there’s a precedent of frequent updates to the lineup. It’s also more popular than ever.

I think they will keep precious metal and diamonds reserved for the datejust. They seem pretty consistent now with their precious metal and gemset options. OP steel only, datejust two tone and diamonds only, daydate anything goes.

With white, rhodium and olive all being popular Classic series colors I expect them to be reissued before additional Stella colors. But I could be wrong.

We might also see turquoise Datejusts and Daydates. I reckon if you want to sell a lot of high margin DJ two tone with gems you throw a turquoise dial on it right now and suddenly the Datejust turns into a hype machine. Rolex has some good options to spread the desire in their lineup.

I’d like to see olive on a jubilee with the orange accents. Or if they went bold and made an olive with the unique yellow gold appliqué that would be special. I’d be a buyer of both of those references.

I could see the new white being eggshell or pure white.

Which dooms my chances of getting either as i agree, these are the best previous colours in recent past.

I really don’t think they will add PM to the OP lineup. When they do that it’s part of the Pearlmaster collection(which I like)

Those 39mm pearlmasters with the themed sapphire bezels look amazing and a bargain compared to other off catalogue factory gemset pieces. If I had the extra $60k or so laying around I’d pick up an olive dial.

I could see purple/lavender being a thing for sure.

I don’t think we’ll see ceramic in the OP range. I could see an all new professional model in ceramic or titanium. Maybe an Airking or Explorer 2 or Milgauss in new material.

Rolex doesn’t seem to be in the habit of giving people what they want. The try and make the rules categories themselves, instead of anticipating the voice of the people they create it. This leads me to believe they will not release an egg-shell white OP or an olive green OP anytime soon. They just produced this. Why would they do it again so soon? They are masters of the art of product differentiation. Whatever they do, it will be in a new direction, or no change at all. Pattern recognition.

I wouldn’t say they don’t give people what they want. They asked for bigger sized watches and got it. They asked for vintage sized explorer and got it. They asked for jubilee options on gmt masters and other professional series and got it.

The OP lineup, much like the datejust, is the lineup of classic and experimental colors. They add and remove dial options to those lineups every 1-3 years like clockwork so to speak.

We got some new DJ dials last year and I suspect we will see some new DJ and OP dials this year.

Olive white and rhodium are all familiar colors in the OP and DJ range so it makes sense to see them show up again.

I suspect the current OP configurations not considering the dial will be around for 10 years or more so I suspect we will see several different waves of new dials and discontinued dials every 2-3 years like they did with previous OP generations.

Before they called it the OP it was called the Air King and it came in all the familiar dial colors then as well.

I could see them discontinuing the turquoise just so there would be a highly collectible OP that would be desirable for the long term. It’s hard to make legendary OP and DJ references so it wouldn’t surprise me if they did that.

Wimbledon is probably the closest they’ve come to a legendary DJ dial since the American psycho, Champaign on 2 tone.

We’ll see in about month.

I would predict the same, but that means removing the current silver dial because dials with yellow gold accents are for two tone watches only.

Although historically, they did provide steel air kings with the same dial
