Rolex Platona 116506. Will this be the year, it gets discontinued?

I was just thinking about Rolex new releases and thought about the Platona, which is a watch that has surprised me the price is fetching now $200k plus. This was a 60k watch 2014ish. Imagine what will the prices get once it gets discontinued.

Beautiful watch, I only got to see it in person once while picking up Starbucks I approached the owner and he was surprised I knew about it and we both had a laugh.

I’d say there’s a pretty good chance next year.

60 years next year since Rolex launched the “cosmograph” and 10 years since they introduced it. But who knows

Yep. I suspect some fluffing by current owners possibly looking to sell...

One of the three threads on this topic today was started by a grey seller that also posted a Platinum Daytona for sale on his IG account today as well. Not the OP on this thread though.

Have to agree perhaps it should be renamed to the Rolex discontinued watch forum.

The only reason I'd sell is because it's become too valuable to wear. Truly sad to own a nice watch and have it too valuable. I guess there's a different threshold for everyone. For some a Sub could be too valuable to wear. I was amazed seeing the prices north of $200K. So back to the question; nobody except Rolex knows; all else is just scuttlebutt. But with a watch in such high demand, it seems unreasonable to discontinue. Also 50 years is much more significant than 60 (unless you're getting old).

I heard Rolex is going to start making SS versions of the Platona going forward with Ice Blue Dial and brown bezel.

We can definitely say with absolute 100% certainty that it will be discontinued at some point before the end of time.

Anything else is pure speculation, and no-one outside of the upper echelons of Rolex headquarters knows for certain, irrespective of what someone's AD's 5th cousin twice removed says.

Why because to many now Rolex watches are little more than ££$$€€ object things and nothing more.

In this case, ££££££€€€€€€$$$$$$

It's funny, but for some reason, the Rolex section of TRF contains BY FAR the most "investment theme/should I tip my AD/how often to chat with your AD" repetitive drivel of anywhere on this site.

Clearly the market continues too drive higher because our esteemed colleagues Chiboy and HogwldFLTR are diamond hands as it relates to the Platona!!!

Next up we need a new uber platona to recent it's place as king of the hill. Platinum, Diamond baguettes, rainbow bezel, meteorite dial, and iced out bracelet.
