One is probably safer inside those resorts than their own neighborhoods at home. In the OPs scenario of always wearing it and not leaving the resort, I'd probably take it. Actually experiencing the country on excursions, I'd leave it at home. |

Apparently these fancy resorts are a big customer base for coke and such which causes problems when rival dealers show up to deliver through staff connections. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/2...hotel-rcna4630 |

Don't leave the resort, and never take it off your wrist. Otherwise, wear a beater.

There is no good reason to bring an expensive watch on vacation. My SKX is always my travel watch. Being a good traveler means being street smart enough not to make yourself a target.

DD in Cancun
Amazing how much fear exists in the world. Why would you own watches and not wear them?

I’m going to the grand princess riviera in mid April.
We are looking forward to it. I will be bringing my BB58. Because like many said why not enjoy them. I have rolex but feel the Tudor will be less flashy. Who knows…. You could die doing the dishes. |

It’s all about risk tolerance. I have a friend that was mugged in Cabo. My wife experienced a shake down in Cabo as well. Shootout at the Hyatt. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, Cancun, Cabo, or Mexico in general is not as safe as the US, or any of the peoples’ houses participating in this thread. You can fool yourself into thinking that it is, but it’s just not.
To those that want to accept the extra risk of wearing their Rolex DD, that is your personal decision. You do you, but do not act surprised if something bad happens. You have put yourself in that position due to your miscalculation of risk. Stay safe brothers. |

I’ve been to Mexico maybe 10 times and going again this April. Have always worn a Rolex or Tudor with no issue. Call it lucky or whatever but I purchase watches to wear them. In the off chance I get mugged, I’ll hand it over and call it a day and have a story. Don’t understand why buy a watch you won’t wear. I think as long as you’re smart and have some sense of situational awareness you’ll be fine.

As long as it never leaves your wrist, and your wrist never leaves the resort, and the resort is upscale, you should be fine. Personally, I take the SS Sub to places like that, and only if I never plan to take it off.

People have different risk tolerance levels. If with family and kids, maybe just wear a Seiko? It is just not worth the risk in the small chance of something bad happening. Either way, have a safe and good time!

No problem inside the resort, did it plenty of times, though I wouldn't venture outside. We are living crazy times.

I would not take mine. When we go, Intake a much less expensive watch and wife leaves her diamond wedding rings home and only wears a gold band. Why call attention to it, especially in Mexico (and we go to high end resorts in Punta Mita).

Well, … As an American that lived in (near) Cancun as a teenager…. I am really not sure how to respond to what some have posted here. Yes, I was a teenager a long time ago, but ….
I want to say a lot, but I won’t. |

My wife, who is a foreigner to the US has a misconception of it that's staggering. I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that natives and folks like you who spent years there are reading this and holding back too. Oddly enough, the most uncomfortable social interaction I've had in recent memory was 15 minutes from my house. A place I've been to hundreds of times before and since. You just never know when trouble finds you. |
