OP 41 Vs Datejust in need of versatile.

I am torn between the OP 41 blue/silver and the Datejust 41 blue dial with the basic oyster bracelet and dial. I want a watch that I can wear with jeans while also dress up. My two worries are:

Is the OP 41 too dressy to dress down with jeans and a T?

How is the polished look with the datejust, too flashy for daily wear? Is it a hassle to keep clean/ free of scratches.

Thanks in advance. Any photos are appreciated.

Both are equally versatile in my book. Looks good formally and looks good casually. I would go with the DJ41 btwn the two if i had to choose one. Sings to me more.

I've worn a DJII with shorts and a T shirt and a suit but I think you just need to figure out if you need the date function or not. If you do, just get the Datejust.

I do not find the OP dressy at all, versatile yes though. I think a “plain” Datejust as you describe isn’t worth the extra money over the OP. If I were getting a blue dial DJ it would be on Jubilee with fluted bezel.

^ I agree. I own the OP 36 white which I’m easily able to dress up or down. I liked the lower cost factor.

Of the two you mention, the main two visual differences will be the brushed vs polished bits and the date function.

The polished bits do take more effort to keep free of fingerprints, but its not a problem for me.

Both are outstanding choices.

Wear what you like, with what you like, when you like.

For me the choice would come down to usefulness. I prefer a date complication and I use it. So the DJ wins by default. Actually, the Sky Dweller wins by default in my case, but that's another discussion.

Your watch, your choice, your money.

The Datejust is just a really nice watch and configured as you say it would have no problem dressing down to jeans and other casual clothing. The polished center links will give you just enough shine but no over the top. And of course you get a date feature which, other than time, is the most useful function on any watch. The OP strikes me as a watch you might bet bored with over time. It's a little plain Jane, if you know what I mean. Go DJ

If you want a beautiful watch get the DJ. If you want a plain, borderline ugly watch, get the OP. Really comes down to your personal tastes.

I don't think most people would agree with your take on the OP41. I personally prefer the older OP39s and think they are lovely, understated pieces that can be used for anything from Jeans/casual to business suit depending on the color of the face and your personal style. Datejust is a nice watch but a wee bit more formal IMO than the OP and thus a little more dressy/less formal but no nicer really. If you need a date function get the Datejust...otherwise I like the OPs very much and I think its a better watch for a younger person too.

We’ll I ain’t like most people; I tells it like I sees it and I see the OP as fugly a watch I’ve ever seen. Never got the hype around that watch. Plain Jane watch with colorful faces…might as well just buy a gshock. Hard pass for me.

This - I own smooth/oyster rhodium 41 and is my do everything watch.

I dress really casually, even in our small accounting practice we wear jeans daily. Weekends are shorts and flip flops/t shirts. Sometimes I think that the DJ is a bit shiny for my weekend wear :)
Funerals, weddings, or Job interviews are the only time I wear a suit, and I believe it would do fine in any of those settings as well.

My vote goes to the OP41. For some reason, I’ve never had a DJ that sticks around

I have a DJII Smooth/Oyter/white, and feel it’s too understated for me. If I did it over again I would have bought the Fluted with oyster. As another poster said, don’t spend the extra $ on the DJ when OP is right in your wheelhouse

I also think the better looking watch is the DJ. That said they can both be dressed up or down especially if you choose a simple white, black, or blue dial as those colors are not likely to clash with most outfit choices .

I think that the OP is inherently the less dressy option of the two. So there would be no problems in jeans and a T-shirt with the OP. I believe that is exactly where that watch fits into the sales spectrum for Rolex.

For me, I would pick a DJ on the jubilee as they don't seem to show the scratches as much as the polished oyster links which would keep my mind from feeling the need to baby it as much. And, I would happily wear it with a linen button up short sleeve shirt and colorful shorts in the summer months. A put together look with a relaxed feel. DJ is probably the most versatile watch Rolex makes. The darn thing would look good while wearing rags repainting you homes ceilings. The watch will look the part with whatever you pair it with. Beach to Boardroom.

I think the most versatile is DJ with smooth bezel and jubilee.

This may be the best option I am leaning towards. Time will tell, thank you all.

I am also hearing it may be easier to snag a DJ from a AD than the OP? Just because they make more DJs? Is this logical?

It is - the OPs are still pretty popular/hot right now, plus at retail it is a lower entry point. Keep us updated and best of luck!

I wear my watches.

My watches don’t wear me.

But I only have jeans and T shirts.
